68 C10 5/7 drop front tire question

Well after searching around this forum for what seems like ages I've started to narrow down what I think would work well on my '68.

My front suspension currently consists of previous owner cut front coils and heated rear coils. This is being taken out for a proper 5/7 drop. 2.5" spindles and 3" springs up front and 5" springs and 2" blocks out back. Keep in mind I do have the narrower 68 rear end.

I have a pair of 15x8 truck rallys that I used to measure. And it looks like my wheel size is set but I am not sure on the tire size. I'm concerned my front tire choice may be a bit big.

Front: 15x8 4" backspacing and a 255/60-15
Rear: 15x10 4.5" backspacing and a 275/60-15

Mondo's truck was what did it for me:

His truck is basically a 4/6 drop and 15x8 4" BS and 15x10 4" BS with the same tires as I propose to run.

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Re: 68 C10 5/7 drop front tire question

Your front tire choice is approx 27" depending on brand. That should work w/a 5" front drop.

The main issue I see might be the wheel width & back spacing @ that drop. You could experience issues w/the outer edge buzzing the fender lip.

For reference, I had a similar drop on my 68 but used the narrower 6.5" van spec'd truck ralleys up front w/a 225/70-15. I didn't have clearance issues but it was close & my wheel was tucked approx 1.5" more than your proposed set-up.

Re: 68 C10 5/7 drop front tire question

I have a 235 55 17 on front of my truck with 17x8 wheel with 4.5" backspacing. 2 1/2" spindle and 2" spring. It too is a 27" tall tire and I have zero interference or rubbing issues in the front and I don't think that extra 1/2" would cause it, but you never know...

Re: 68 C10 5/7 drop front tire question

Thank you guys for the information. Right now I have what I think is a van rally and it seems to tuck in quite a bit. I tried a 15x8 truck rally and it seemed like it fit pretty well but I'll not know for sure until I get it all together. I just don't want to have to buy two pairs of front wheels/tires to make it fit!

Re: 68 C10 5/7 drop front tire question

I have the 6.5 van rally's. The truck is aired out and has just about 1/2 clearance 235/70/15. That measure just about 26 that s funny because they say there 27.8" in there book. "

I was running 275/60/15 on 8" rally's and there were rubbing the inside of the tubs. 1968 suburban and it has the narrow rear end. I ended up using the 15x7s out back and 15x6.5 up front and 235/70/15 all around. There skinny !

On my old 1967 I had 2.5 spindle 1" coil and 255/60/15. They were fine on a 7" rally. But with a 2" drop coil they rubbed.

72Mario...... This is a great example of why I encourage people to test someones wheel/tire set-up if @ all possible & why I say what works on 1 truck may not on another (because of the parts used).

Re: 68 C10 5/7 drop front tire question

Well I sent the 15x8 wheels back, I tried a truck rally up front with the drop there is no way it would work!

I have a set of 15x7 Truck Rallys and they seem to be the perfect fit - now I am trying to find a used 235/65/15 tire to mock up as well as a few other 15 inch tires...

The current 225/75/15 isn't going to cut it the tire is VERY close to rubbing then again it is a 28.xx" tall tire!
