Re: 2017 HRPT in a 72 Super with my wife and sons
I liked this truck because it was kind of ratty like mine, and probably the only other truck still at stock ride height but it has an LS swap.
I am not a huge fan of LS swap everything but it was still really cool. I want to put a diesel in mine which I knw has been done also but not many 2wd...

Re: 2017 HRPT in a 72 Super with my wife and sons
more pics from Newton.
The orange and white truck was at the GM Motor Medic. Broke a carrier bearing. Actually they said it was the forth one on this trip. I had changed mine before we left with a billet one from Summit but kept my old one which was only a year old. I gave it to them. They were very happy.

Re: 2017 HRPT in a 72 Super with my wife and sons
My son is driving a 1980 Mecury Bobcat. Actually the same as a Pinto. The yellow wagon is a Fairmont based on the Fox Body platform. But anyway, yeah my son is a nut. We originally bought him a 67 G20 Chevy van. It turned out to be a lot more rust and with a lot of odd one year only parts it was expensive to rebuild. So he sold it and we helped him buy the Bobcat. Just a year ago we dragged it out of a field. It had a blown head gasket and bad piston. (2.3L four banger). He rebuilt the engine, the trans and the brakes. All pretty much on his own. I helped him of course but as a coach and he did the work. I am very proud of him. The engine is bored .040" over, new cam, header, four barrel carb, of course all new internals. So we have driven it now in 6 states in the last two days. No problems so far!

Re: 2017 HRPT in a 72 Super with my wife and sons
of course he added racing seats, steering wheel, mini stocker 15 inch wheels and tires and on I could go. On top is his Sears Screamer 1 vintage "Muscle Bike" and my Western Flyer bike. He is actraction a lot of attention at every gas stop and as we drive thru towns everyone points and waves. It's pretty cool. I have a go pro in my truck. When I get good internet I will upload some video to you tube and share here too. I have followed him to video some of the reactions. That's his brother my older son riding with him. He is building a car too but we didn't get it finished in time.
I found these pics of him on the internet already, they are from our trip this week

Re: 2017 HRPT in a 72 Super with my wife and sons
Damn it, I told my wife I'm going again next year. I can't take all these awesome updates (the HRPT facebook page is killing me!)
It was supposed to be a bucket list thing in 2014, but the trans went in my car on Day 3. Limped it home, but wouldn't move when I put it in gear the next morning Ran the whole route in 2015 and LOVED it. I kinda hated the route last year, was mostly large cities or long flat highways with nothing to see in between, and it was HOT as balls last year, for 5 days straight it was 102-106*. So I said I wanted to take a break. So what started as a "bucket list" item has become a bit of an obsession. It just makes sense for me. I've never been a huge car show fan, but give me a backroad with a couple thousand other classics and I'm in my happy place. I'm only 6 hours from Bowling Green so if it goes east or south next year I just have to make the run

Re: 2017 HRPT in a 72 Super with my wife and sons
I saw a boat load of C10s roll by yesterday, but danged if I miss yours. I took two bathroom breaks in the 5 hours I sat out by the road. You probably rolled by during one of them.

Re: 2017 HRPT in a 72 Super with my wife and sons
I saw a lot of C10s, burbs, and a lot of cool out of the box type stuff. It really bummed me out not being able to long haul this year. Maybe next year.
I took my 6 year old little girl with me yesterday. She had had enough of the heat at 3:30 so we began the trek out then. It took us a good 20min just to get out to the main road. I was impressed with all the cars and trucks coming in at that point. It made me rethink why we got up early to catch them coming through that morning. I saw some friends just getting in as we left too. I wish you all safe travels and keep making your updates so we all can follow along with you the rest of the way!

Re: 2017 HRPT in a 72 Super with my wife and sons
I saw somewhere that they wouldn't be on the tour this year, are the cars just being trailered around?
They were all over last year, I saw them so many times the "celebrity" wore off and they were just two dudes Finnegan actually drove the muscle truck along the entire route, I saw him rolling in it a few times (in 2016). Rudlege wood also had a crew last year that ran twin green 67/68 Camaros. We ran into him at a gas station and talked for 5 minutes or so. He said my car was "cool". I gushed like a school girl
