Im not an expert semi wheel guy but Ive spent a lot of time on the phone with trevor from tennessee wheel and tire before I bought 12 wheels and 8 adaptors. along with reading the alcoa book on up keep of their wheels, and its not how to wash and polish them. the book goes in to detail on how to fix and service them so that truck companys can save them and make them last. so with that said heres my opinon. if the wheels are at a junk yard its for a good resone, and their are alot of different typs of semi wheels: size, bolt pattron,hub piloted, non hub piloted, lug piloted, non lug piloted, offsets and so on unless you know what your looking for your better off to make the jump and buy them from someone thats on the same page as you. in the long run you may save yourself time and money.

If that was meant for me, combing a junkyard for semi wheels was never an option I had considered.

the truck in the first thread(4th pic down) has direct bolt-on brentz dually wheels, they are 19s. not sure if he is in business anymore.

From what I can tell the townasty wheels are like what phishninmn said a tag axle or drop axle wheel. There are however a lot of different wheels used on drop axles. Some are full sized wheels, some are a lot smaller, some are more narrow, some use super singles, and some have different offsets. The reason no one other than trevor is making such a wheel as the townasty is its marketed to a niche inside a niche. There's only a small percentage of people who have duallies much less ones that are going to shell out the coin for a set of semis, of that group only a small percentage will run them on lowered or bagged trucks. Especially on squares when you can swap in a Cab and chassis axle for less money than what it take to up grade to the townastys.
Heres a pic of my dually running 22" big hole classics. I will be running all 6 milled semis on nitto 265/35s with a C&C rear.

Man, I need to get out there and drool over that thing sometime.

My logic for wanting the Tow Nastys or some similar setup that will tuck with a stock axle and stock fenders is for the times when I may want to put the stock wheels back on for whatever reason. I just don't like the sucked in look you end up with from the narrower axle or wider fenders.

It's not like I'll be buying anything anytime soon, but I just want to figure things out beforehand.

Thats true, you would be able to fit stock wheels back on with a C&C but they would be sucked in pretty far. I actually have a Standard dually, C&C, and single wheel rearend. So I can select a WMS from 72", 67.5", or 63.5". This will let me fine tune the gap between my outside wheels and stock width fenders, all with stock axle widths nothing custom. That is of course when i get to working on the rear. I'm still setting up the front suspension now.

1BadGMC where are pics of your dually?

Can you guys clarify for me, is a TowNasty only made by Tenessee Wheel & Tire? Named after the red/black truck? Or is a TowNasty the extra smaller tires on concrete trucks.

1-owner truck. My dad bought it brand new in August of '88. It had 12 miles on the odometer when we picked it up. It has 80,000 on it now. 454 and originally had a 700R4, but now it has a 5-speed. I took care of it when I was in high school with all the detailing and what not. My reward was to be able to take it out on the weekend. After I went off to college, my dad neglected to pick up where I left off. It's in desperate need of a paint job, and the dash is shot.

the townasty is the outside dual wheel and how it came known as the townasty is chase (the owner and builder of townasty) did the research and found the wheel that was needed to accomplish the ability to tuck the rear wheels with out changing or narrowing the rear end. then he had trevor of tennessee wheel and tire do all the machine work

and that boys a girls is how the townasty was born

No single cab duallys for me. I like some of the ones being built here but crew cabs are where its at. I put that 89-91 core support in a 81 SWB I sold a while back. Im going to run the 85-88 grille. Either the entire silverado grille, or the work grille with dual head light bezels haven't decided yet.

considering the 19.5's to save some $ you better research TIRES SIZES
before you buy rims. Very, Very few Low Profiles are available. They sell
a 19" direct bolt on, 22's and 24's will require 8 to 10 lug adapters.
