I hate computers (rant)

I have a love/hate feeling about the digital world we now live in...I hate computers but also find them a necessary evil...how else could I find places like this to answer most any truck question I have.....
case in point.. I've spent some time on my laptop out of necessity because some places I buy things from I can't complete a order on my pad...now my computer says my wireless internet is turned off...no clue what I did to turn it off...no clue how to turn it on...I've spent about 5hrs trying to figure it out..been reading google and everything else I can find with no luck..ive done everything i could find...it doesnt help that im a dummy when it comes to computers..

Oh I know what you mean. Everything these days are computer connected in some way. Mini 'puters everywhere. I know enough to operate pc's and laptops but I have to "google" how to sometimes get mine to straighten up when it gets out of sorts. When all else fails I reset mine to factory specs or at least a few months prior date before it began acting up. There are sometimes glitches in the newest updates. Those updates make changes in the settings. You could always have a teenager look at it. They seem to know ALL about these things.
Me. I cannot get the DVD player to work on my tv with the U-verse box connected...

Just wait til you go to your local bank for a deposit or withdrawal and their internet is down ,you wont make a deposit or cash a check or withdraw money from your account ,been there and done that .Now I have accounts at 2 different banks in different citys . I also keep some cash at home because of this .

I hate them in the same way. I use Firefox, that is MY choice. Every time there is an update I log-on, click up on Firefox and a pop-up box asks me if I want to use Firefox as my default browser. YES, NOTHING HAS CHANGED! I STILL WANT TO USE THE BROWSER I"VE BEEN USING, BEEN SETTING AS DEFAULT, THAT I JUST CLICKED ON BECAUSE I'M SURE THAT"S WHAT I WANT AND NOT YOUR INTERNET EXPLORER YOU INSIST ON RESETTING AS MY DEFAULT!!!!!

As of this last "update" the way you set an app as default has changed (hate that crap!) and now I don't know how to complete setting my default browser. But I still get asked every time I get online. I click what there is to click and my computer doesn'y take me to the next step for completion. It feels like I've been scammed. Why keep changing the way the computer operates only to mess people up? One day I know how to use this thing and the next they go and make it complicated. ARGH!

I never cared for electronics. I'm a mechanically oriented type. Now I realize electronics have been shoved down our throats and it's being made to where we are forced to be involved with this crap. Try living w/o. Sure you can do it, and I do all I can. It's a hard row to hoe and you sure don't feel free. I don't see any of it as making life easier. There isn't a thing on the internet that isn't out in the real world. The internet just brings it to you with a click...and many other costs involved

I'm not really a computer technology expert, but I have to use tech every day. Pretty much everything I use is up to date. My laptop is in the hot rod of laptops. My cell phone is the iPhone X maxed out. My job is fixing and selling copiers and printers. The latest copiers are basically computers that copy, print, scan, and fax. With a ton of other cool features a person never would have guessed just a few short years ago you would be available on a copier. Heck you can even go online with a copier now. The screen on some of them is the size of a decent tablet.

So here is my problem with computers and totally up to date tech. It all breaks, it all has glitches, nothing is 100% trouble free, not even close. But every day I hear about companies putting in for self driving semi trucks, self driving cars. Things that interact with the population at large. Im just not feeling it.

You might say we have had automated this and that for years now, but these things haven't been barreling down the highway at 70 MPH either. Like I said ... Im just not feeling it (yet).

I like them becasue (not in any order)

I thru face book can visit with my family,and see photos I never seen from family group sites
I can U-Tube most anything and then decide if I want to fix any thing I want to fix
I can research anything from anywhere
I can pay my bills thru internet ,,no mailing by letters or driving to do so
I can ..write for an hour and still think of things I like about the Computer,

And so, after all this halla ba loo speel I just spoke ,,I am going to ask Google on my Computer to help me learn how to post a photo in here.

Last night when traveling form Phoenix to my duty station in SE Arizona, I pulled into a McDs in Benson. It wasn't late, only 730pm or so. There were no order takers available and I was told to use the automated Kiosks in the lobby to place my order. I was not happy. When I complained to the manager about lack of customer service, she shrugged her shoulder and said get ready because that is the way McDs is going nation wide.

I work in a software driven environment where most of the systems I repair are dependent on some sort of computer interface. The brains in upper management keep signing off on software upgrades and operating system changes to the computer infrastructure without realizing they screw the techs in the field as the legacy equipment software will not work on the newer operating systems.
It takes weeks to develop a workaround for when this happens.

Computers, we were told way back when is SUPPOSED to make our lives easier and better. It appears we were lied to ..... surprise surprise.

Now we have identity theft, conflicting software, banks and businesses that cannot do basic functions without a working computer network, heck even cars today can't do anything without the multiple computers imbedded under all the tin...

I like life as it was before computers...much more simple.

I thought I would never own a computer (I still have a "60s mind set when everything was simpler). My friends kept telling me you need a computer, so about two years ago I bought one and just as I was getting familiar with it, it crashed. I didn't have a back up plan so I lost all the pics I had saved, most saved from this site! I installed a new disc drive and system recovery media and after a bunch of hours up and running again. I have a like/hate attitude towards tech stuff but learning from u tube and these forums has made up for all the problems and money spent. I want to get a back up external drive so I don't loose everything again! Question-what external drive do I get for a back up?

i used to buy brand name desktop harddrives , if you dont need the latest greatest they can be fairly cheap.
i now use USB thumbdrives, dirt cheap , even have a few with advertising that i got free.
