jeep cj7 gauges

i was googling around to see if its possible and surprised nothing came up. my neighbor is a jeep guy and has the large circular gauge out of a 85 cj7. has the giant speedo and small temp and fuel on the bottom.

it almost fits perfectly, its a hair to big but looks like you can clamp it in from the back side and it will just sit recessed into the dash a bit or if you wanted to inlarge the dash hole a millimeter or so it should fit perfect.

just curious if anyone ever done it?



im just holding it up there with my hand. looks better then the rusty crusty gauges that came with the truck

Only downside I see is the 85mph speedo..not nearly enough..haha

That doesn't look too bad. Are the GM sensors going to work with the Jeep gauges? I believe the fuel sender resistance may be different.

Not sure if the ohm reading from the sending unit is going to be the same or not. I'm not going to use the factory in cab tank so ill be sure to look into that before I decide to run it or not. I'll compare the readings from the jeep to whatever I decide to use

It shouldn't be hard to find out the rating for a Jeep tank unit.

Speedway has a unit that is adjustable to match OHM of tank sender and gauge. It's pricey but it would work for you as I think you'll need a different sending unit otherwise.

I do dig the Jeep gauges. What are you planning to do in the other hole?

There are two different CJ tanks in that time. I had a larger one that I used to make a heated waste oil tank for a diesel. The sender has a longer arm but I don't know if the resistance is different. FSM would be the way to go. At least you don't have one from a later vehicle with EFI. Those get a speed signal and maybe the temp reading from the computer.

Since you are not planning on using the stock tank ,a cj7 tank might fit nicely in the back ,they are a relatively rectangular shape and jeep frames are narrow and straight in the rear .

20 gallon CJ tank. It actually hangs in its own support frame. The frame acts as a shield. I believe the tank has an internal baffle for EFI.

The tank on the jeep he's gutting didn't look to bad, I'll ask him if I can have it, probably just going to scrap it anyways. And good question about the second hole... can always stick a tach or something in there. I'll figure that out when I get there I guess. Need to get it together and running first
