Re: 1963 GMC C30 panel truck

Got out to the shop this past Saturday. Working down a long to do list to get this beast running.

Got more fabricating done in the cab area. First cut out the hole in the trans cover for the t-case shifter. I will now have to make a custom boot and plate to hold the boot. Drilled and installed rivnuts for the upper trans cover piece, I want to keep the access open to the back of the block and transmission. I also installed three out of four speaker. I cut out the holes with the plasma cutter, awesome time saver!!! Drilled out some holes and installed some rivnuts, love those too. I also cut some holes in the dash for switches, aux ports and so on. I have shorted the list of fab work for the cab and will be looking to get the insulation in soon. The plan is to go with Lizard skin sound and heat deadner. Ran out of time in the shop so I didn’t get photos of everything. Pretty happy how the speaker installs turned out. I also got to try out the stereo! Sounds awesome. Thanks for tuning in, more to come.

Cheers,

Anthony

Re: 1963 GMC C30 panel truck

Hey guys,

Got another day in the shop. Checked a few more items of the list. Installed the vents in the dash from the old air kit. Finished off the t case shifter install, got the boot wrapped up as well. Installed a handle above the passengers side and managed to make the dodge parking brake work in the cab. Also the fuel tank is all wrapped up. Just plugging along, picking off one thing at a time until she’s running. More to come.

Cheers,

Anthony

Re: 1963 GMC C30 panel truck

Evening,

Got another day in the shop!

Spent some time working on the getting the bed wood all bolted in. The rear sill plate and crossmember are bolted in. Got the seat frames drilled for the mounting plates and got the plates for the 2nd row of seats installed. I laid out the 3rd row but need to get it routered out. The seat looks awesome in there and has plenty of leg room. After the seats are in then the bed strips can go back in. More to come.

Cheers,

Anthony

Got some nice wide spaced wing nuts for mounting the seats. I can really get some torque on them!

Thanks! Trying to keep at it. Getting closer to having it running.

Got more time in the shop today. Finished up installing the seat mounting plates. Then I moved onto installing the bed strips and getting the floor sealed up with urethane. All bolted down now, ran out of sealer so not quite finished the bottom. All the body mounts are in and bolted down as well. Back end just about wrapped up. I only need to install the drivers side speaker then I can get the cab floor and fire wall preped for the lizard skin!!! As much as I didn’t want to mount the speakers in doors, I think I will need to on the drivers side, not many other options. More to come.

Cheers,

Anthony

Re: 1963 GMC C30 panel truck

Evening guys,

More progress on the panel this week. I got the fuel tank installed, plumbed and wired. All the lizard skin is down, stuff is awesome! Time will tell for durablility. Front seats are in, touched up the dash a bit. Got the hood latch working again. And started the transmission cooler install. There is just no room left up by the radiator and intercooler so underneath it goes! More to come.

Cheers,

Anthony

Re: 1963 GMC C30 panel truck

Hey Guys,

Back at it again today. Feel like I was moving forward, definitely forward haha, got a few move items checked off the list. Transmission oil cooler is now mounted and plumbed in. The heater core is now plumped in. Tidied up some wiring under the hood, mounted a few more components. I also rerouted my power steering lines, I was concerned that they were going to rub in there last position. I was bummed out looking at all the rust developing on the new quarters I installed, so... i attacked some rust with the die grinder and some acid etch. Now it’s all primed and ready for some paint.

I’m hoping to get the engine fired up here pretty soon. Need to get all the fluid systems charged up and I should be good to go... still need to get the brakes all buttoned up before I do that though hahaha. More to come.

Cheers,

Anthony

Temporary paint for the passengers side is on!

Didn’t turn out the best, but hey it’s doing it’s job and let’s be serious it’s a pick up and will be getting scratched anyways. Had a few runs, having trouble figuring out my paint gun...

Re: 1963 GMC C30 panel truck

More progress this weekend

Pulled the hubs and drums of the full float in the back, got the new parking brake cables installed. Completed the brackets for parking brake, all installed and functioning. Buttoned up the wiring for the transmission, I think the oil seal for the front yoke on the t-case is shot seams to pour out when I spin it in neutral. Made the changes to the t-case shifter, it was in the way when the seat shifts forward. Sealed up and bolted in the trans tunnel covers. Still a list of items to check off the list, but it is getting drastically shorter the motor is running now and I’m not far off!

I will be moving down island at the end of June, I am working towards driving down with me indsted of paying a bunch to tow it down again... picking up some more supplies while down island this week to keep things going. More to come!

Cheers

Re: 1963 GMC C30 panel truck

More work on the panel

Rear diff service, got the new radiator in. Sanded the drivers side door jam and quarter, acid etch, laid down the epoxy primer, paint and clear.

Also started in at the front end, pulled the passengers side apart, u-joint, king pins, bearings, seals and new rotors. The calipers I picked up are wrong... gave everything a nice freshen up with the wire wheel and some por. More to come

Re: 1963 GMC C30 panel truck

Little more progress on the panel

Started work on the drivers side front end. Blew it all apart, wire wheeled everything, taped and painted with POR, new u-joint, king pins, bearing repack, new rotors. Still have to get the calipers and pads, tie rod ends and brake lines in. Also got the fuel door on and rear bumper. Getting closer and closer.

Cheers
