Help with front fender seals; are they necessary?

Hey guys, I'm putting my 72 back together now that panels are back from paint and im home from college on spring break. I've just realized i don't have the fender seals or the metal piece that holds them and which clips to the fenders nor do i have the right angle seals or brackets. As I replaced my rotted fenders with new ones.

Are these pieces necessary to put the front end back together and if so is there any substitution that can be made for these? I do not want to hold up work on the truck because these parts wouldn't be in by the end of the week...

They are there for a reason, GM would not have spent the money otherwise that is for sure.

Not running them, and to be honest when I pulled my stocker apart there was nothing there.

I don't recall mine having anything there either. Did they not install them on some trucks (years?)

They were not on all trucks, I wouldn't let them hold up work on the truck.

They were standard on Cheyenne Supers. Not sure what other trim levels they were available on. In other words, most of the trucks did not have them. You'll be fine without.

I was under the impression that they were only used on trucks with air conditioning.

The seals are independent of having AC. My Super is a perfect example. No factory AC but has the seals.

Well it would be interesting to figure out what they are intended for. I know the 72 cab has a vent in the door sill around the latch area, with a valve.

Anyone have any enlightenment?

In my old 72 which is long gone I do not remember that gas smell as much either.

Perhaps on the higher trims they were installed as an attempt at quieting body noise between the doghouse and the cab?
