Clunk! now window wont come up!

trying to roll up window (99 ext cab, 4wd, full size, pw,pdl, etc), heard big clunk, then window wouldn't roll up! was about 1/2 way when i heard the noise, it went the rest of the way down with the pw button, but now won't come back up. What do I look for when i get the door panel off? broken cable? I don't think window is off track, it didn't fall. any help would be great, thanks, AC

Sounds like the window regulator went out. You'll probably need to replace it. Not hard, but not cheap either.

Re: Clunk! now window wont come up!

You were both right, I figured that's what it was, but I thought I'd ask the experts first. Took off door panel to take a look. Took to shop to have fixed. I figured I would just break stuff and it would end up costing me more in the long run. $288 total. I didn't think that was too bad since the parts were $200. Anyway, I had to have it done, it's my daily driver, and my 72 doesn't have wipers and we had a thunderstorm that day, what luck. For future reference, anyone have a procedure to replace that thing? All the cables were out, it was a mess. Any links, or help is greatly appreciated! thanks y'all!

Re: Clunk! now window wont come up!

1. Buy a window regulator off e-bay.
2. Follow the directions.
3. Run window up and dow a couple times to make sure it goes up square.
4. Reinstall door trim.

Total $ - 125 time - 2hrs including removing trim. Less if competent mechanic or useful help available.
