Med Bronze Paint 1971 Question

I have 71 longhorn that came with med bronze paint, at some point it was repainted, it still looks the same color med bronze but I feel it has no sparkle/ or metallic shine to it.

I have done all the sheet metal work and am ready to start bodywork and paint. I once owned a 71 1/2 ton that had the same color but I remember it having a sparkle to it like it had a metallic flake.

Did the original color 522 have a sparkle and or flake to it?

I want to try to get a mix close to what my 1/2 ton looked like when I was younger not the almost flat life less repainted looks like. BUT when I asked my guy about this that paint he sell does not come with flake as a option (ie said it could not be added) I am looking for pic to show what I am looking for just have not found them yet

pls help

Re: Med Bronze Paint 1971 Question

Yes
This is a 72 chart
But as far as I know
All the medium bronze years
Were poly (metal flake)(metallic)
Albeit subtle

Re: Med Bronze Paint 1971 Question

Keep asking
A different paint shop
Or different paint supplier
Whoever you are dealing with...
Until
You get what is correct

I've never seen factory 1972 c10 colors called some of those names. I learned something

Re: Med Bronze Paint 1971 Question

I just painted this last year
It’s not easy to get perfect to original
But, I think we got close

You can see the exterior is new
The jams and interior are original

Re: Med Bronze Paint 1971 Question

Thanks for the input. Back to hitting the shops... Is it unrealistic to be asking the for a sample size so my painter can paint some small sample parts so I can confirm this is what I want. I am willing to pay for a small can as long as it comes with the mixing recipe so when I do the large order for the rest of the paint it still that same.

No, not un realistic
I do it every time
To make sure it is correct

Yes add more flake if you want

I actually think it looks better than the original
That’s why I said subtle
Because you don’t see it that much from the factory

Re: Med Bronze Paint 1971 Question

My 68 with a bronze paint job. It’s not original by any means. Looking at the door jams and some other areas mine appears to have been a booger green color

Re: Med Bronze Paint 1971 Question

That looks like saddle poly to me, which, when faded is hard (for me) to tell apart from faded anniversary gold. Actually, I'd guess it IS gold first, then a "maybe" on the saddle. I must be going blind. Anyway, I don't believe med bronze was a factory option in 68 (and I realize you said it was originally booger, ha). Got a SPID?
Good looking truck ya got there!

Yes the SPID says 551 which would be gold

This is what color I think it is underneath even though it looks a little greener to me

I found a pic of this truck which they're calling gold (looks more bronze to me) and my truck more resembles this one.

Yeah I cant believe they painted right over it. The truck belonged to my great uncle and he used it as a farm truck. He passed away several years ago and its been sitting in a barn on some land we own ever since. Odometer only reads 4k miles and some change but from what ive determined the motor in it isn't original. Why a different motor and paint job I'll never know.
