electrical question / help
So here is the problum. I started out with a left turn signal that did not work, and the dash lights that would not work. I stated to look around at all the bulbs. they were fine. The I looked at the fuses, the only one that was blown was the one for the dash lights. So I went and replaced it, this is were it gets fun. "POP" the fuse blows out. So I was looking around here and some one suggested to ground the dash, so I did that, but when I pulled the dash out to look at it the printed circut was a little messed up. So I figured fix it. Got the new one and put it on the dash. Now that eveything is put back togeather, I am still having the same problum as be for. the driverside blinker dosn't work, the dash lights still don't work, and now the fuel gauge dose not work. I would like to drive the truck off a cliff, but that would make the wife mad.
So here I am again asking for some help please. The driver side blinker dose not work, The dash lights dose not work, The fuel gauge dose not work, All the bulbs are good, could not find any damaged wires. NOTE: where the wire plugs into the harness for the fuel tank sending unit, dose that plug show power when you put a tester on it? If so mine has no power runing to it. hopefully someone can help if not I will be looking for that cliff

well if you're popping fuses that means you have a short circuit: places to check would be :theharness ror the rear lights that runs along the drivers side frame rail, second would be the wiring to the dimmer switch, third the wiring under the chrome step plate by the drivers side rocker panel, you must also make sure you have good grounds all the way around the truck because a bad ground will also blow fuses

Check your grounds. If you have check them again. Grounds are so important and they can be so annoying to fix.

Similar problem turned out to be the positive cable grounding out on the block.

Landon,
I was having a problem with my guages similar to the one you describe. I also had a short circuit on the circuit board. Here's the part that may interest you -- I found this while was diagnosing a blown fuse in the front lighting harness! Turns out there's a little rubber inline fuse socket tucked by the battery. It's got a little 4A fuse in it. Is it possible that you may have blown this? |

The tail lights, dash lights and dome light are all on the same fuse, I'd definitely be looking at the tail light harness. They have a tendency to rub through on the frame. Also a loose tail light bulb can do this too, but normally they would only do that while driving because the vibration causes it to arc and draw more amps.

OK but no one has answered the question about the fuel sending unit. Dose that plug have power or not?
