Stainless Steel Hose Help

I recently bought some braided stainless steel lines from summit. I need help in figuring out how to install the ends. I am sure there are a lot of people that have worked with these. Thanx for any help you can give me.

Assuming that you're talking about the steel braided line that is used with AN filttings..

1. mark your line at the length you need

2. wrap the line with 3-4 layers of electrical tape

3. Use a chop saw or cut-off saw to cut the line. Go slow when you do the cut. I would not use a hack saw.. It frays the ends.

4. Clean out the ends so that the shavings from the cutting process are cleaned out

5. carefully peal the tape off, being careful not to fray the steel strands

5. take the fitting apart and install the bottom piece onto the hose. You will need to do this slowly and insure that all strands are under the edge of the fitting piece that you're pushing on to the braided line. rotate this clockwise and counter clockwise while applying pressure to push it on.

6. After this piece is fully seated, drip some engine oil into the hose and wrap a piece of electrical tape around the braided hose so that the tape is flush with the bottom piece of the fitting.

7. put a piece of cloth around the piece of the fitting that is on the hose and clamp this in a vice so that the top of this 1/2 of the fitting is above the top of the vice and the braided line is hanging down under the vice.

8. screw in the top piece of the fitting, 1st by hand and then with a wrench. Apply pressure upwards on the line to insure that the line is not forced out of the bottom piece of the fitting. The piece of tape that is referenced in step 6 is a guide that you can watch to make sure that the line is not being pushed out.


It take a little practice, but you'll have it down by the time you do your last fitting.

First, what is a chop saw, I was planning on using a hacksaw, but I won't now. Second, it doesn't seem that the hose wants to fit into the fitting. Do you have to force it in? Thanx for the help Chevelle. I want thes to work out good.

you have to take the fitting apart it will fit..do you have a dremmel tool? a cut off wheel on it works real good..you will figure it out..just stick with it

I have a drimmel so that will work.

Definitely make sure you take the fitting apart.. .. It will be a tight fit that needs some force along with twisting the bottom 1/2 of the fitting both ways as you force it onto the line.


Chop saw/cutoff saw, dremmel tool. You want a tool that uses a high speed disk that you can use to cut through the line.

O' one other thing I didn't make clear in my 1st reply. You should cut through the electrical taped section so that the tape keeps the metal braids from fraying.
