Should I take this free corvette engine?

My sister is getting rid of a 1995 corvette. She said it "steams" real bad, that's why she stopped driving it. clouds of steam... she was going to donate the car and said I could have the engine and trans. Should I take it to put in my truck? is it worth fixing? And what parts do I keep? like wire harness. I havea 1969 shortbed.

Re: Should I take this free corvette engine?

If it were me... I'd grab it.

Anything Corvette is worth something to some body, even if you do nothing with it you could turn it for a few bucks.

The motor is still a 350...

Anything free is good. Sounds like a block or head issue though.

Re: Should I take this free corvette engine?

FYI, Car Craft did a few articles recently about the C4 and the potential it has for upgrading with an LSx. Here is a link for your reading..
http://www.carcraft.com/techarticles.../photo_15.html
Bottom line - The car has some good potential for upgrading
Note: The 6.0/4L80E pictured in the CC article was being sold at Pomona in Jan 09. ChiefRocka and I were there and know the seller pretty well. A good guy....

Re: Should I take this free corvette engine?

My analysis of your sister:

Anyone who is going to donate a 95 corvette (still a relatively new vehicle) has alot of money. (Car still runs)

Wouldn't it be cheaper to fix? Could be something simple. Again, this is behavior patterns of rich people.

Re: Should I take this free corvette engine?

I had a friend who made $$ on a Vet. It had been sitting in garage for many years, all pulled apart. He got it all together & running, and was able to make a buck on it.

It's still a valuable car, you may be able to fix it & sell it, split the profit with your sister (just because she's your sis), and use the money for your "truck" habit

^^^^tsk,tsk,tsk...^^^^

Sounds like your sister loves you and has gotten
tired of worrying about her car being reliable.

Accept your sisters gift with a smile and a thank you!

Seriously...have a mechanic look it over and see what it really needs. Who knows, it could be a radiator hose that has a hole in it. You should tell your sis that you are her favorite charity.

Re: Should I take this free corvette engine?

Since you asked, I say don't waste your time. If you had the knowledge and tools to troubleshoot and repair it yourself, then it is may be worth it. If you had that knowledge and those tools, you wouldn't be asking.

A '95 corvette isn't worth **** and the trouble and cost of aging electronics and tracking problems is worth getting a newer car to 99% of people. Plus it's obd1 which is far worse than the latter. I would run the lt1, you can even get carbed intakes for them and run a distributor with it. Just have to figure out the water pump/water hoses situation. I'm pretty sure the engine mounts will have to be moved however, they decided to move the mounting spot on the engine for ****s and giggles I believe

Re: Should I take this free corvette engine?

Yeah it's worth something, the motor and a rolling chassis for a race car. Just not together

Re: Should I take this free corvette engine?

sounds like a great foundation for a 383 stroker motor......have great flow and mpi combined with more cubic inches. i'd take that on a vette, so its a no brainer in a truck!
