Re: Finally Started! 75' Crew

So it turns out that the camshaft somehow shifted back and chewed into the block. Now ive got a huge paperweight. Great. I dont have much time left before i move so what should i do? Should i push and scrounge to get a 454 in it possibly buying a used running one just to get it on the road? Or should i just put it on the backburner and save up some cash for a while; maybe throw a 4bt in it once i get enough to fund it? The only stipulation is if i end up holding off, the truck will probably have to stay here in Tucson until i can get the time to move it to colorado. Either that or i can try and sell it or maybe try and get my money back from my cousin. Hmmm....

350's are cheap and plentiful.....a 350 Vortec makes decent power.

I say browse craigslist and find the cheapest "hear it run" motor you can and dump it in. Should be able to get one for $400 or less.

Re: Finally Started! 75' Crew

So for the most recent update. I am moving out of the Tucson area at the end of June so the project is on a hold until it all gets moved to Colorado. However, i sourced a 454 that a family friend has got. Not totally sure of the condition but he said i could have it for free. No harm in that. That will probably be put in the dually as i have decided to save up and put either a 4bt or 6bt cummins in the quad. Meanwhile i will be doing body work and probably a 4wd conversion to it.

Re: Finally Started! 75' Crew

Woo finally time for another update. Scored a running 454 sunday for $450 and ive been slaving every day to get it in and driveable. All ive got left is putting on the distributor, plug wires, fan, radiator hoses and fluids. We were able to hear it run on saturday and it had excellent oil pressure, no knocks and no leaks. Im hoping to finish it up today although the wife isnt happy about me being gone every evening. I hope to have some pictures soon. Probably when its sitting in my driveway and not my cousins.

Re: Finally Started! 75' Crew

Finally got to drive it yesterday! It was too dark to get any decent video but I took what i could get. It runs like a champ and rides like a caddy (without AC though.) Now its time to start cleaning it up and getting some interior taken care of.

Re: Finally Started! 75' Crew

I know its been a LONG time since i have updated anything on this truck so here it goes. Over the course of the last month or so my dad brought it to me from Colorado to Ohio. I had family issues come up that forced us to move to Columbus. But hey ive got my truck, it is now registered and I drive it as often as i can afford to. In the past couple weeks i have
1. Swapped out the stock intake/carb to a edelbrock performer intake and 1412 (800cfm) carb.
2. Got rid of the ugly camper shell that my dad temporarily used for transporting stuff with.
3. Cleaned and repainted the cab trim (pics to come)
4. Got my cb radio installed.

She is driving great now although i do need to fix a header gasket leak, and get the carb tuned right which is proving to be a definate learning experience. I will try and post some pictures of the trim and an updated photo of the truck soon.

I didn't know that they came in red. Is that the stock color or you just repainted them to your liking? I want that same color...

That's all original. I don't know the exact name for the color but I can look it up. It's darker than what the outside of the truck shows. The interior paneling is still in pretty good condition paint wise and it is a pretty color.

I'm really liking that color. If you could find the name that would be cool

Re: Finally Started! 75' Crew

Im still trying to nail the exact colors down, but im pretty sure its rosedale red (071) and frost white (012). Im looking into doing a paint job at the end of the summer if i can afford to do it. I would love to stick with the same colors and maybe add a little metallic to it.

Re: Finally Started! 75' Crew

I'm looking for a stock red and white to paint my 78 c30 so this maybe something to look at. What about your fender, door, and bed trim? Is it the yellow trim or black inside the chrome?

The body doesnt have any of the trim except the cab band and emblems. That being said im going through and repainting them at the moment. They originally had the yellow but im not a fan so now the yellow is black.

Re: Finally Started! 75' Crew

I'm actually pretty interested in what the color combo looks like with the yellow trim. I like to get as close to the funkiness as I can of the 70's lol

Other than it being fairly time consuming and fairl expensive, there are no real down falls.

Re: Finally Started! 75' Crew

Well i so graciously managed to strip out my carb studs. I was in the middle of putting in a manual choke assembly and the damn things werent wanting to tighten down. Trying to decide if I should drill it out and go bigger or buy helicoils and re thread them.

Hmmmm..... to sell the seats and get new ones or not..... ive been REALLY thinking this question over since I bought the truck. I like the vintage but would LOVE to have newer ones in for comfort and safety.

Re: Finally Started! 75' Crew

As you may have seen my post on the previous category on the forum I picked up carpet from a suburban and attempted to make it work in the crew. Not so much.... The front half worked while the back did not. But the insulation will suffice and it was in great condition! The carpet had some stains and wasn't that great but hey, I've got carpet and insulation in the front now! I would say its a hell of a lot better than nothing! Now i don't have to buy insulation when i decide to pay for new carpet at least. FYI.... it was a royal pain in the ass to install..... I messed with the seats for nearly 2hrs to get them to line up with the mounts again. I shouldve taken good pics and sold them while i had them out! Oh well.... they are starting to grow on me anyhow. Ill post pictures of the cab soon now that its starting to come together for work at least.
