New GM Performance 350 crate question

Good evening,

Bought my 63 step with a 327 and 3 on the tree this summer. Didn't get to drive it much before the 327 gave out. Just got my 290 hp GM performance 350 crate and everyone says my intake and carb will work from the Sbc 327, the 327 intake has the oil filler neck and spring running to the carb, I have not seen this on a 350. Looking for input on if this will work on the new engine. And yes, I am a Noob. Thanks, love the site and the posts people share.

Jim

If you get it in the wrong section you can always get it moved by a moderator. It might take a little while, but it can be done.
And welcome to the jungle!!

Yes. Your intake will bolt right up to a 350.I dont know if this motor has vortec style heads or not.If they are vortec, they wont work. The intake bolt pattern is different.

Re: New GM Performance 350 crate question

The 290 horse crate engine should not have Vortec heads. Your manifold will work with it. The reason you haven't seen the combination before is that the factory changed the design of the manifold about the same time as the 327 went away.

Re: New GM Performance 350 crate question

The 350/290 DOES NOT have vortec heads on them. I'm in the slow process of doing this evil but hi hp and torque switchover. Smaller 64cc chamber. 8.9-9.0 to 1. Head gasket thickness- from .015 thou thick 9.43:1 work up from there. New intake manifold And Carburetor if working that angle. I am. I am a Weiand and Holley guy. New purchase Edelbrock 7116 Performer RPM and Either a Holley 1850-5 600 or a 3310-4 750. Weiand alum water pump MSD 6a ignition. Now the Hard part, 700R4. I was gonna use a Comp XE 268 kit because I already have it. I don't need 5800 rpm top end. Probably gonna go with K Kit w/XE 256 or 262 cam $335.00. Heads free but with machine work $500.00 for valve job. Edel 7116 =$186.00 it came wit intake gaskets and ARP intake bolts and ceramicote metallic finish.
Wish me money & luck.

If you are 100% period correct you will have to address the PCV; either hiding it or just using it and not be 100% period correct. That means you may or may not be able to use those pretty 327 valve covers.

Talking Re: New GM Performance 350 crate question

No vortec heads on the 290 so you're fine. Should bolt right up. What's with all the hall monitors on this site being grumpy about? I bet very few people read the "rules" on posting. I think it's worse to see this rudeness towards new enthusiasts than a double post. Moderators jobs are to inform and correct not everyone elses. Welcome to the forum! You're going to have a lot of fun with these old trucks and there is tons of information here and lots of helpful people!
