It varies for what I am doing but the most is done with the industrial alkaline solution and if I need to go further I am using an industrial wall cleaner. Both are diluted for the specific task at hand.

Doesn't everyone degrease, abrasive tumble, and paint their bolts? LOL

And frame paint today. Anywhere I can't get to when the engine is back in

Nice progress. Yes, on my last full build, we did the same to all the bolts that we reused...

I'd always seen them on forums and thought they would work well, after building them I have wondered how I lived without them. I even stole the small one I built for my jack to raise up my battery back-up for the home computer.

Re: 1973 C20 Semi-build

Finished up cleaning the firewall as much as I will for this time, may buff it out though...

I guess they write the color down on the firewall?

And the nasty chrome wheels and off road tires are gone, need to run the originals down and get new rubber.

Re: 1973 C20 Semi-build

Excellent work on the firewall. I think cleaning up the original looks good, remains utilitarian, and retains character that I like. Often the paint itself is in good shape. And even though I'm not a concours resto guy, I still like to see those factory markings. Crazy to think that some guy wrote that by hand 40 years ago and it's still there.

Re: 1973 C20 Semi-build

Got out before it got hotter than the surface of the sun here in Texas and truck was still in the shade. Installed the headers(dropped right in as they should!) after cutting off a little bit of the down pipes for the stock manifolds, installed power steering pump/brackets after making a spacer to go with the headers, new soft fuel lines to the pump, installed thermostat/gasket/housing, and dropped in the distributor. I'm either lucky, good, or crafty as the balancer was at 8* BTDC and the distributor dropped in straight away. I'm buying lottery tickets later today.....

Re: 1973 C20 Semi-build

Texas has been so hot but this morning was just a little cooler. Got out and cleaned up the plug wires with Goop hand cleaner, swapped out the blue wire holders for a set of black one I think I bought in 90', detailed the distributor cap, cleaned up the permanent cork gaskets off the valve covers, new filter/vac caps on carb, and installed it all on the engine.

Re: 1973 C20 Semi-build

It all looks the same in the bay, finished up wiring/vacuum last week, picked up new battery cables, and fired it this morning on starter fluid. I'd forgot how loud open headers were. The ignition switch is clicky/sticky as all get out so I pulled the top of the steering apart to fix and called it a day.
