MI: Engine numbers
Recently purchased a 292 but have no idea as to what year it may be. Have in torn down and would appreciate it if some one could tell me what I have. The only number on the block is 3851659 and that number is located under the manifold and again on the right side above the starter. The pad by dist. is smooth, don't believe it ever had any numbers. The head has the # 4435F24 on it vertically between the front plug holes. I want to install this in my 69, is there any reason it shouldn't fit?

Re: MI: Engine numbers
Any Chevy '63 and up I6 will bolt up in your '69. For the 292 you will need the correct passenger side engine mount bracket on the frame. You will also need the correct flywheel/flexplate for a 292. All Chevy 292's are interchangeable.

Re: MI: Engine numbers
You have the earlier 63-66 292. Will bolt right up in the 69 with what the Captain mentioned.
