I am trying to hook up a tach on my HEI distributor. I'm from the old school where it meant hooking to a coil. I see on the HEI where it should be hooked but I don't know how it hooks. I looks like it takes a special plug that I don't have and don't even know what to ask for at the parts house.

The "correct" plug has a little clip to hold it in. A normal female spade connector works great.

I guess it depends on the HEI, but I just used a spade connector and all was good.

Or the next time your in the salvage yard keep your eyes open for an oe type connector

You can get them from Summit for under $5. All it is is infact a spade, but if you want the one with the clips, here it is. I am using the one for the power wire.

The female spade does work but I had problems with the one on mine getting just loose enough to cause the engine to either quit or misfire. I finally picked up the correct one with the locking tang on it.

This is what you need and you should be able to get a similar one at the local parts house. http://www.repairconnector.com/produ...d-Repair-.html Nabbing a used one and a length of the heavy gage wire to go with it works too though.

I just used standard spade connectors for my power and tach too. Does the factory clip type have both wires, or two separate like the Pico ones?
