disc brake conversion

hi-
can somone recommend a vendor for a front disc brake kit? i upgraded my master cylinder to a dual mc with prop valve already and ran all new metal brake lines.. i got that MC from CPP - one of the parts was wrong size and had to be modified. does anyone have experience with the kit that LMC sells?

when i look up CPP, i seem to find a lot of negative reviews. anyone here have any recent experience with cpp disc brakes?

the LMC catalog leads me to believe that you have to buy their new spindles with the disc brake kit. is that true ? "the disc brake kit contains the parts you need when converting from front drum brakes when using new spindles"

do these kits come with the caliper mounting bracket? can i use my stock front spindles that have drums now or do you always have to use new spindles that go with the disc brake kit?

I bought POL's kit. The kit didnt' fit right, their customer service was terrible. I was basically on my own. Did eventually make it work but damned if I'd buy from them again. I think in the end the problem was cheapo pads or rotors, one or the other being too thick to fit without a major PITA.
The stuff being sold by Summit is from Classic Performance Products. I'm not a fan of theirs, either, since the crossmembers I bought from them had really piss-poor fit in every way you can think of. It took me a grinder, a torch, a hammer & a *lot* of welding fill-in to make them work. The brake kits might be just fine, though.
Wish I had something more definite / encouraging.

The brand that summit sells is mcgaughys.. And I found an eBay seller toms classics that has the total kit for a little less than summit but with drilled slotted rotors. Are drilled rotors better?

The ones I found said "CPP" on screen. McGaughys has a better reputation, though, so if you are sure it's their stuff then go for it.

They probably sell several brands. Yes I'm sure the kit in particular I'm looking at is mcgaughys. I got confused because the websit says that separate caliper brackets are available , but the bracket is already part of the new spindle

I know "you get what you pay for" is almost always true. I don't want to save money and buy crap. Also don't want to blow money to buy the name Willwood. And to make it more confusing , the really expensive willwood calipers on the summit website are designed to only fit the CPP spindles

Do you have a link to the McGaughy's kit that summit sells? I'm not finding it, which makes me wonder if you have the wrong part number or if we are talking about different vehicles or what.
You have to separate the hub & drum on all the kits I'm familiar with. 3 rivets to grind / punch.
Speedway sells a 6-lug hub & bearing kit that is pretty slick, uses readily available bearings & seals that are rated well above OEM bearings. They say it's for disc brakes but I suspect there are kits that would fit, though you might need to do some homework & talk to tech support to verify this.

Oh I forgot to mention the front clip in my truck is from a 1968 c10 6 lug, so I searched summit for 1968 c10 disc brakes

I have no relevant experience, then, except to say that CPP and POL have piss-poor customer service.

Anyone deal with "tomsclassics" on eBay? He's got the kit that summit sells, but with drilled rotors. It comes with d52 brake pads. Good ?

Since you have the '68 front clip, why not search and ask questions in the 67-72 Forum? Answers and experience should be more relevant.

I am putting on at kit from Tucker's. The have 5-lug or 6 and you can upgrade to slotted rotors. I am using the straight axle. I just got them on. The instructions were crap but once I got it figured out on the first side , it probably took me less than an hour to do the second. Read my thread on the spindle adapter. I am looking forward to having nice brakes. I might post some photos because the DIY threads on this forum do not have many that I could find.

I did this conversion on my 56.

But I have the original I Beam front end..
I used the CPP Kit including the new bearings.

Cadman, Thanks for the great pictures, they make me think it is in my capability to tackle. Just picked up a 1959 with 235 and a 4 speed. It looks good but the more i look the more work it needs. Doing the wiring now but brakes are next on the list. Right rear randomly binds and not sure the parking brake works as advertised. We'll see what I find when I open them up. Couple of questions about your install. Was there any fabrication required with the dual cylinder booster? Are you running a manual transmission and did you have to install a different transmission support beam? Thanks
