Re: napco on ebay

it may have had the swivel frame mod done, you can see the swivel in this pic
it obviously didn't work too well, you can see someone cobbled some c-channel over the swivel joint
terrible welding on the body mounts
never saw this mod before, good idea in someone's thought process though

Re: napco on ebay

Odd, I have never seen a NAPCO conversion that required a mod to that cross member.

Re: napco on ebay

the swivel frame was more common on Dodge Power Wagons. Extremely rare option outside of Dodge and this is the 2nd chevy i have seen done.

I know Willock did some in Canada, not sure if anyone else did. http://bringatrailer.com/2011/11/09/...e-power-wagon/

Modified home brew

In theory it was a great concept, but limited the articulation to one plane. Lots of stress on that swivel

Re: napco on ebay

that thrust bushing is a whole lot stronger than someone might think. there is a big tanker in the factory brochure in that link! the only big force is a bending moment, and tube doesnt bend very easily from what I remember of my statics.

its the same reason that perfectly reasonable people will build brackets from 1/4" plate or overkill their frame grafts not realizing the extra stiffness just pushes the forces to the weakest point down the line.

That yellow truck is in the peterson museum..couple of videos on u-tube of them in action..google says only 49 were built and only 14 known to still exist..they may be referring to the power wagon..couldn't find anything on a napco with a willock.

Re: napco on ebay

Now we're moving OT, but I did a "Reverse image search" with that frame section pictured above and found a bunch of cool photos, including the M715 project it was built for. I'd love to talk with the person who put that joint into the NAPCO truck. And I'd love to talk with the guy who decided it wasn't such a good idea, too.
