Aftermarket speaker kick panels - what did you do with your vent pulls?

When purchased, my non-ac truck has aftermarket kick panels with nice speakers. I like them.

When it got hot I wanted to open the vents, but no pull lever.

What creative ways have members fixed this issue? I did a temp fix with bar stock, a tap and a zip tie...

Could you put slot in the panel for the lever to ride in and open and close?
I say this having never seen these panels.

I unscrewed the bracket that holds the rod from the sheet metal and screwed right through the kick panel back into the same holes with the same screws works same as before
