Re: Drive shaft carnage
A few scratches on the bed supports and the carrier bearing x member but overall no damage but the shaft..trans might have some damage but can't tell yet...

Re: Drive shaft carnage
Had that happen to a '69 Riviera years ago...all my fault. Tried to do a brake stand to do a burn out. When that didn't work, I dropped it from park to Drive at 2k RPM. Boom. Trashed the drive shaft and the tail shaft of the transmission at same time.
That was many years ago...Lesson learned.

Re: Drive shaft carnage
don't gun it on the interstate going 75 in rush hr traffic its always had a slight vibration at 75-80 then it would smooth out so I never really saw the need to deal with it... but I think when I put the nv3500 in the angle might have been slightly off and caused a harmonic vibration and the shaft must have had a week spot and came apart.. well that's my guess anyway

Re: Drive shaft carnage
... happens to the nicest people .... did it to the Blazer a couple of months ago. Didn't damage anything else. The cross member contained it, made a pretty ugly noise.

Re: Drive shaft carnage
Makes me feel a bit better to know I'm not alone. Now if I could only find that 4' of drive shaft off the interest I'd have a hell of a wall hanger

Re: Drive shaft carnage
Dude, are you wearing pink thongs? A two piece drive shaft wouldn't do that...There's a very good reason why the General installed two piece drive shafts in "all" our trucks...

Re: Drive shaft carnage
they are white lol... ya and there was a really good reason I had a one piece in there went through 4 carrier units in 2 years... do 2 pieces work yes will the carrier bearing take alot of abuse in my opinion no...and there are clearance issues once lowered after a certain height this shaft has been used since 2002. So I got my money out of it..

Re: Drive shaft carnage
Not to mention almost all 2wd trucks now have 1 piece drive lines I have an aluminum one piece sitting in the garage to go behind my 6.0 and t56 just was waiting for the motor or something to happen to do the project..
