Front Turn indicators

Hi Guys,

Waiting for interior parts to arrive for my '71 C10 so I can put it back together, so I thought I would ask about another issue I have noticed.

My front turn signals aren't working. I noticed that when I turn on my lights, my dash indicators light up, then flash when I activate the turn signals. Is this normal on these trucks?

Just wondering if I need to just check the bulbs out front, or if I have some weird wiring issue going on. Don't know that I've seen many vehicles light up the dash indicators when the lights are turned on. Kind of seems like they are acting like the front parking lights should, and the front parking lights/indicators aren't working.

Plan to pull the bulbs out front and see if they are good, and if they are getting power. Are C10 front parking lights supposed to be on when headlights are on? I know they aren't on my '69 Charger,.... only when you hit the lights to the first click, then go off again when lights are turned on.

Re: Front Turn indicators

Check the relay (flasher) and bulbs at all corners.

You also need to check the front markers as they are part of the turn signal circuit (they flash alternating with the front signal) from 70 on I think.

I will try to check the bulbs and wiring out front tonight.

When you say "Front markers" I assume you are talking about the side markers. Good to know! I didn't know that they flashed too. I will check and see what they are doing!

Re: Front Turn indicators

Checking bulbs would be a good start. Then check all grounds battery to frame, engine to frame, frame to cab, dash, core support, and rear box. All the grounds play a major factor into getting all the lights to work correctly.

Re: Front Turn indicators

And it's rare, but bulbs can short (one filament to the other).
