Radio question

My truck came with a new harness, but the factory AM radio wasn't hooked up. The wiring diagram that I see in the factory assembly manual doesn't show a radio at all. I managed to find and download the radio service bulletin for this truck and radio (#987187). The radio itself has 2 wires coming off of it. The service bulletin shows two wires also, one labelled "Lead A", and the other "Dial Light Lead". (Unfortunately, it doesn't indicate which color wire is which.)

The new dash harness has no where that I can see to connect these wires. Does the dimmer wire go directly to the headlight switch? Is "Lead A" connected to ACC power somewhere?

(Also, the cigarette lighter is also not connected to anything, and the harness also does not seem to have a place to connect it. Where should this be connected?)

Thanks!

Re: Radio question

According to the installation instructions http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com...cpctai162.html the radio wires would have been connected to the fuse panel. Fuse panels were not standard in all trucks but can be installed after the fact. http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com...cpctai058.html

Checking the wires seems fairly easy. The power wire should have infinite resistance with the switch in the "Off" position if measured to the radio body.

Re: Radio question

You're welcome.

If you haven't already found them, the 1929-57 parts and accessories manual is on the same site:
http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com...arts/index.htm

The '55 second series shop manual:
http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com...uck2/index.htm

You can find the 55-59 assembly manual online as well:

Happy reading.
Edit: Forgot to mention the cigarette lighter was originally connected to battery terminal on the ignition switch:

Re: Radio question

the basic truck had no fuse panel, also no heater, lighter, or radio, everything was ordered installed or dealer installed
the one fuse in a base truck is instrument light fuse located on the headlight switch
all other lights were protected with bi-metal overload switches that are built into the headlight switch
these strips on the sides of the switch look like a set of points
