That's what I thought I remembered. Here are pics of my 2-speed. There's a possibility that they are different but I would imagine only dimensionally and that would probably be just the shifter detent at the bottom end.

Re: 66 c10 steering column rebuild help needed

In damnyankee’s pictures. The first and second pic shows the swivel bolt that the shift linkage rod fits into. Does anyone know how to take that bolt off? There is a tension pin on it but I removed that and still dont see a way to pull that bolt off. I assume i can cut it but that seems like a pain in the A.

Thanks
John B

Here's an exploded view of the that part. Mine didn't have any kind of pin. It just fell apart after removing the C clip.

Re: 66 c10 steering column rebuild help needed

well apparently i do not know how to put this thing back together.

Is there a new column on the market that will accept the stock steering wheel, automatic 3 speed, column shift.

the problem with the one i had rebuilt is it does not have the neutral safety switch which i really need on this truck.

Any nice rebuilt ones that serves this purpose out there?

thanks Keith

You can use that switch for backup lights or n/s switch but not both.

Your attachments won't open for me for some reason.

You weren't able to weld a tab on the inner tube like I described in your other post to engage a switch?

https://www.amazon.com/s?i=automotiv...dp_lf_ladp_1_4

Amazon shows this Standard Motor Products NS5 neutral/back up switch as correct for a 66. It is my experience that those type switches do both the back up light and neutral lock out functions, with two pairs of wires going to the two different sets of terminals on the switch. Other #'s are NS14 and NS15 but probably not good for your application.

Keep trying. You don't have a good enough weld/penetration. A correct weld will be more than strong enough to hold the tab in position.

Re: 66 c10 steering column rebuild help needed

Update. after reading everyone's posts, i came up with an idea on making my own tab for the reverse switch. instead of welding it in place, i did this.

i created a small tab and shaped to accept the reverse switch and the curvature of the column. after a few trial/erros/and fitment, then i used 3M Body Panel Adhesive to glue it in place. i tell you what, that worked like a champ and was easier than i thought it would be.. switch works great and the tab isnt going anywhere. that stuff is hard as a rock.

thanks for the ideas and tech support.

Re: 66 c10 steering column rebuild help needed

i reassembled my column. is anything missing before i install the steering wheel?

also working on the column harness using the American Auto Wiring Classic Update. My harness mimics the 63 with the exception of the tan/green, mine is black. do i follow the 63 or 66 wiring diagram.??
