Power windows

My window regulators in my 69 4x4 are bad. In the LMC catalog I found a power window kit. I would like to have power windows in the truck some day. Would I still have to replace the regulators or can I just get the kit? Is the kit hard to install? I would rather invest money in the power windows.

Thanks Mike

wow it totally slipped my mind what the regulators where for a second. ugh its been a long day. the power window kit should replace everything that attaches to the rail on the bottom of the glass. the regulators use gears and springs and if they were making the power window to still have to use the regulators it would have to be set to work with just those gears and springs and stuff and that would only replace the fact that you dont have to turn the crank to get it to go up.that whole piece should come out and the power window kit should have all that stuff on it. if that makes any sense. Im not sure I lost myself in there too so if it doesnt dont feel bad. Im assuming your looking at a universal power window kit which would replace the regulators inside the door already. or at least the ones I have seen do.

If it's the universal kit that I'm thinking of, it works by turning the splined shaft that the window crank originally fit on. There is a cable driven gear contraption that is supposed to fit under the door panel but over splined shaft while you hide the drive motor somewhere down in the guts of the door.

I bought one of these made by Spal a while back and couldn't see any way to make it work on out trucks without either modifying the regulators or having something sticking out thru the door panels (want to buy it...cheap ).

There are a couple of vendors that make electric window kits that come with new regulators for about $250.00 that work pretty well. Or you cam go junk yard shopping for belt type drive units out of a late 80's oldsmobuick and modify them to work.

Just use the search function here and type in "electric windows" and you'll find info on all of this
