Gas! ... How many miles per gallon do you get with your classic truck?

Re: > What is your MPG ?

The reason I am happy when I drive my classics is because I never calculate MPG. I do however get about 25 smiles per gallon

Re: > What is your MPG ?

Thanks for the responses so far. Just curious what others are getting.

As for me, I get about 8-10 mpg around town. c10 long bed step side, 250 engine, 1bbl carb. Not stellar mileage, but it runs great and I do get plenty of smiles per gallon.

Re: > What is your MPG ?

People rag on me all the time for driving these old gas guzzlers, and that is always my answer. Taking the kids with you increases the smiles per gallon 10 fold.

Re: > What is your MPG ?

Last camping trip in my '72 Sierra Grande 3/4 ton with the original 350/350 combo with a few mods and a 4.10 rear we got almost 17 mpg with 2000lbs. of camper and gear.I thought the gauge was broken until I topped up the tank.
Before you get to excited, don't forget our gallon is bigger.

Re: > What is your MPG ?

'72 K20, mild 350, TH350 trans, 4.10s, 32" tires.

Kept track many years ago on a 3000+ mile trip, averaged 11 mpg.

Totaled up a winter's worth of one-mile trips to work & back a few years ago. Had to warm it up before driving, and it was still running on partial choke. Calculated 2 mpg. Yup, you read that right, two.

That is pretty good. 17 imperial gallons converts to 20.4 US gallons.

Re: > What is your MPG ?

I've calculated a lot of tanks. 350/700R/3.73 edelbrock 650.

11-12mpg "average" around town. I use OD probably 25% of the time, but I also hammer it a lot.

On the highway around 16mpg. If I slow up to 55-60 (which is really hard) I've squeezed out 17.5 It's way more fun cruising at 70-75 though...

My 65 mustang has a 289/C4/2.8 and stock 2 barrel and it gets about 15-16mpg no matter what I do (city/highway, etc).

Re: > What is your MPG ?

I get about 10 mpg on the highway at 55 mph with a mild built 350 3 spd auto with 373 and a 2800 stall. This is also figuring for the bigger canadian gallon. so my mph sucks.

Re: > What is your MPG ?

I think we figured 12-13 mpg BEFORE carb rebuild, so it could most likely be more.

Got a stock 350 with Q-Jet, TH350, 4:09 gears.

Re: > What is your MPG ?

i really dont want to know what my truck will get with the bigblock im fixing to build. just a mild built 454, punched to a 468 dome pistons, mild cam. id imagine it wont be good. especially with the medical condition where my foot twitches down rapidly.

Re: > What is your MPG ?

68 lwb, stock 350, edelbrock 1406, np435, can't tell you the rear gears, 275/60/15 tires. Most of my miles are highway at about 60mph because of the 4 spd and last fill up was 11.5 mpg. The speedo is off though so I don't know if that affects the odometer or not. Also, I tuned my carb a bit rich a while back and haven't cut it back yet. Might gain me an mpg or so if I find the sweet spot, but haven't really messed with it much.

1967 longed with a 355, 90's truck throttle body fuel injection and a 700r4. Daily driver. When I first installed the new engine it was getting about 21-22 on the highway. I haven't checked it lately though.

Re: > What is your MPG ?

I tell people i get 100% fuel comsumption, it uses everthing i put in!
My panel has an old 5.0, Tuned port motor w/700r4, highway its great 17-18 mpg, city-12 mpg.
My Suburban`s old set up had a carbed 350 w/7004r, it was about 14-15 highway, 10 local. The 6.2 in there now is great on the highway! I seen a major improvement, not sure exactly, (speedo/odmeter not hooked up) but on my usual trips It uses A LOT less to fill it. BUT, if you "beat it up", OMG the gas gauge drops.
I just did a 300 mile road trip with a buddy in his 2012 Denali AWD, it was showing his overall average at 9 mpg. On our trip, all highway it was showing 14 mpg.

Re: > What is your MPG ?

I get enough to make it to a pump before I run out. I pump fuel at various locations various distances apart,so have no way of accurately calculating. I just thank God there are plenty of stations spread around

Nah,seriously,in my '72K2500 350/TH350 4.10 235/85-16 all season tires I get 12.5 last time I figured. I had a '72 K/20 400SBC/4spd 4.10 315/85-16 all terrain tires and got the same mileage. That 400 had enough torque to turn the taller tires with such a light touch it never worked hard. I sure am amazed that someone can get 20mpg out of any carburated 350 in any vehicle. Sounds a bit overly optimistic.
