1967 Chevy C10 Automatic Floor Shifter

Im new to the forum and not sure if there is an existing thread on this subject. But I would like to install a floor shifter for my TH350 which is hooked up to my 350 motor. The column shifter that is currently present is a bit awkward. A floor shift with a ratchet option would be much more conveinient. Any suggestions as to feasability, installation and brand of shifter would be appreciated. I'm currently looking at the B&M line. Again, any help with this project would be greatly appreciated.

I had a '67 K/10 Suburban with a 454 and a TH350/NP205.
It had a B&M Megashifter left over from the PO. When a greasejockey at a JiffyLube jammed it I replaced it with a Hurst V-Matic. They're both about the same, just don't let idiots anywhere near your controls.

Lokar makes some pretty nice floor shifters too!

If you're running a bench seat make sure you specify that.Some shifters are short and/or set just right to hit the seat.I guess with buckets you would have room but it may also be in an awkward spot.

I had installed a mega shifter in an old jeep I had. Its a pretty straigtforward process and the instructions are fairly easy to understand, but Im sure there are plenty of youtube videos showing how to install them.

But in our trucks I just dont think they look right unless you go with bucket seats and a custom made console with the megashifter installed in that.

B&M does make a unimatic shifter that is also very straightforward with the install and looks much more like a stock shifter in our trucks. Plus the price point is the lowest of just about all the aftermarket shifters out there.

Lokar makes the best looking shifter of all of them, but you will pay for it. Ive never installed one myself but Im sure its pretty simple. There really isnt alot to change when you go from a column shift to a floor shifter. Basically unhooking the the rod to the column shifter... Cut a hole for your floor shifter... Install brackets and linkage... place boot, or plastic cover on shifter.. .and your done.

This is all just my opinion... That is whats so great about our trucks they can be made to fit so many different taste.

Thanks for the input everyone. What is the best way to cut the hole for the shifter? And when I buy the shifter I have to consider that I have a bench seat and have seen some pics of the shifter being too close to the seat to shift correctly. I thought you could place the shifter in any spot on the hump as they come with a 5 foot cable. Is this assumption correct?

I put a B&M QuickSilver in mine. Trying to shift during WOT with the column was pretty tough.

I'm running a bent arm 23" Gennie in mine with a 700R4. Read quite a bit about floor shifters on the HAMB and the Gennie seemed like the best option for me. I bought a removable high hump so it was pretty easy to figure out the hole placement. FYI I got the mid-mount assembly which puts it over the trans vice the tail mount which would have placed the shifter quite a ways back towards the seat.

Theres an article in a recent Custom Classic Truck mag about replacing the floor hump and using the I think Lokar shifter. The Lokar looks like the ticket to me, it mounts right to the top of the tranny. Clean design. I dont have one just chiming in my 02 cent worth.

Thanks for the pics. That B&M Megashifter looks like it is placed just right. That shifter is on my shortlist as it looked like it would work well. Well payday is Thursday and so far the Megashifter is at the top of my list now that I see it with a bench seat.

In several automatic cars/trucks I have had in the past I have gone with the B&M Z Gate shifter. Never had any problems. Its cable opperated, small, has seperate reverse lock out, easy to install, and you can mount it at any angle.

Thanks! The seats are 40/20/40 out of an early 2000's Chevy truck. The console is just an Autozone cheapy. To install the floor shifter I had to give up the cupholders that were mounted off the front of the center seat.

I started out with the B&M floor shifter but bought a S-10 floor shifter and installed it. I used the B&M cable for now. When I take it into the shop for the LSx motor and trans swap I plan to have it hooked up with the right cable.

I like the Lokar line myself. they have several different designs, and lengths. I myself have purchased one, but am yet to install it as my project is far from that point. You can also look at the TCI outlaw series. they are very popular in mustangs, (5.slOws) but the make them for many applications

I like the 23" bent arm with dual shift. Pushbutton and sideshift. So many choices.

funny, i always thought the column shifter was pretty convenient in these trucks! only reason i'd go to a floor shifter is for a dedicated drag strip rig. it just looks really cheap otherwise.

the first thing i would do with a floor shifted auto is convert back to a column to get the stupid shifter up out of the way (waste of floor space), or better, take advantage of the hole in the floor and switch to a 6 speed. a shifter on the floor without a clutch pedal is a total kill joy for me. the 3 on the tree in my 72 Burb C20 makes more sense than an auto on the floor.....shifter is right where i can grab it AND i get the fun of working a clutch pedal.

the floor auto in my 97 Camry drives me nuts (if it wasn't so close to the grave, i'd put a stick shift in it). i even accidentally shifted into reverse a couple weeks ago as i was coming down to a stop light. killed the engine, but luckily didn't hurt anything. for me, an auto on the column is safer...no tendency to play with it.....just set it and forget it!

that being said, i do like the interesting consoles you guys have used to convert to a floor shifter.
