Axle Id

I was wondering if there is a way to tell the spline count without taking the Axles out and physically counting the splines. I know my axles have been changed to 5 lug by previous owner but i do not know much more than that.

I remember there being a way to id axles by the type of "cup" on the outboard end of the axle but it has been so long that I can not remember what it identifies.

Re: Axle Id

Sometime around 65 give or take they went to 30 splines on the 12 bolt. Any of the 5 lug axles will be 30 spline. 99% certainty.
