Mirror opinion

If you are trying to avoid hanging out there too far with a mirror, sorta sporty looking, but not a "sport" style mirror. Which mirror would be the next smallest up, but have decent visibility out of both sides of the cab?

Something like a DG4 maybe?

Re: Mirror opinion

Yes, at least for me. That is the most trim mirror you'll get a decent mirror with. I like the 67-70 standard mirrors I call stick mirrors. But they are a small headed mirror as well

Re: Mirror opinion

I have DG4s on my '69 and prefer them over the other options. In addition to the unique 72 version, I have found that there were actually 2 slightly different DG4 69-71 versions that use the same mounting points. What I believe to be the second version mounts closer to the truck. The distance to the truck can be further reduced, if desired, by using elbows from a late 70s van which had at least one leg shorter than the truck elbows. However, the van elbows have female threads vs. threaded studs on the truck elbows, but can be easily "studed". The van elbows are also stainless which is a big plus to me.

Here are pictures of the two versions. The version on the truck are what I believe to be the second version, and I think have the van elbows (I can verify that in a couple days). The second picture is one of my originals. Note the shorter length (about 1") of the arm that attaches below the window of the one on the truck and the curvature added at the lower legs. My guess is when they shortened the arm below the window they had to curve the legs to clear upper belt molding.

Re: Mirror opinion

Those long arm ones actually look pretty good. But I was thinking more like these a forum member has for sale 72 version. I don't think Ive ever driven a truck with them so wasn't sure of passenger side viewing. With the large mirror head it seems like they would work great. I actually have a brand new set of the mirror heads so I would only need to come up with a set of arms.

Re: Mirror opinion

I know what you mean, some of the mirrors available for our trucks are actually a little too sporty-looking.

Personally I am really fond of west coast jr mirrors, they come in many different shapes and styles.

Re: Mirror opinion

I went with these (I think they are correct for my 70 GMC), haven't mounted them yet:

Re: Mirror opinion

W.C. jr's fan here, but I actually have the DG4 style on my 67. PS viewing isn't bad, as long as nobody bumps it walking past it... Lol

Re: Mirror opinion

There a ton of great looking mirrors for our trucks. Big fan of the WC JR's myself. I was more interested in the smallest, factory, actually functional mirror. It looks like the DG4 is the winner.

Re: Mirror opinion

DG4 is a good all around mirror. Have them on my '72 and like said, they can be customized with different "legs". For pulling, I have a set of legs that are about 3" longer that I can swap on.

Personally, I think you can't beat a set of West Coast Seniors. If I ever find a good set fr reasonable, the DG4's are going by the way side.

Re: Mirror opinion

So, the DG4s you like are '72-only. First Owner's mirrors are also DG4s, but from 69-71. I'll be using them on y '72 K2500 when I restore it. The camper/towing mirrors are great, except I don't really need that wide a view. I never swing mine out to tow. The door denting risk is not worth it.

Did yours already have the inner plates? Didn't realize i needed the inner plates when i bought the "kit". I'm planning on making my own plates with either 5/16" nutserts or welding 5/16 nuts to the plates. Gonna use some extra floorpan sheetmetal I have laying around.
