did i pick up a pos?

i just picked up a 88 k5, body is in great shape minus a few rust holes right above the pass door drip rail. the interior is 90% complete missing some minor trim parts. i'll get to the point, idiot po removed most of the 4x4 parts. still has front rear axles, but that's all. he took out the 700r4 and xfer case and put in th350 and had a new ds made so its only 2wd. i could really get into all the other cheesy stuff he did as well, but i don't have time for it. put bluntly it is unsafe to drive til i fix it. i want to make it 4wd again. i have a np 203 xfer case that came off a th350 and idon't have a prob getting new ds's made. i was just wondering what a fully loaded 88 k5 is worth (ballpark figure) so i can make up my mind whether to fix it or strip it. also will a np203 mount to this tranny (it is a th350 short shaft) by just removing the tailshaft housing?

It all depends on how much of it is left in original condition or what got modified and by how much, it also depends on how much you want to put into to then turn around and sell it. I can't really give a ball-park figure because there are so many variables.

Good Luck

its got 127000+ miles, all original except for the tranny change i mentioned above, headers, true duals (cats and o2 sensor removed). all the power options work except for the pass window switch on the drivers door and the cruise control. no radio. body has minor dents and dings throughout needs a new rear bumper, and the small rust holes i mentioned above. is that enough info for a ball park figure.

I don't think you can add a transfer case without changing the out put shaft on the trans which comes out through the front. Better left to the pro's. Look for a deal on a 700r4 and transfer case ready to go since it allready had one. I'm sure someone on the board can set you up!

well as far as the th350 goes you have to shorten the output shaft in order for it to work but it is advisable to have one to measure from as in my 1981 i have a short shaft th350 from a 1984 impala in it til i can get my orig rebuilt
