Re: What did you do to your truck today!

In the battle of 42 year old door hinge pin vs man, man was victorious today. Freeze it, beat it, blast it, paint it.

Notes to self:

1) You don't just run out and change door hinge pins.

2) Cover up when sandblasting. Black diamond in a butt crack on a hot Texas day should be a once in a life time experience only.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Answered a add on CL, guy had a Wrangler he wanted to trade for a truck; asked for a couple pics then said he was interested but had someone coming by this aft going to look at his jeep and would give me a text if he still had the jeep, I've been looking at wranglers for a couple years now. Went out in the driveway and washed the old girl went down and put some gas in her and went for a ride. Got back to the house shot the guy a text that I wasn't interested anymore, I guess I came back to my senses. I've had that truck longer than just about anything I've ever had that was drivable.

Funny...in a strange way. After I built the '72, I sold it to buy a Wrangler. A pretty black Jeep with a bunch of nice upgrades. I loved the Jeep.

Worst (car or bike) thing I ever did was sell that '72 to fund that Wrangler.

Congratulations.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Removed the old tired brake booster and master cylinder. I purchased an aftermarked set up on Ebay $105.00. So I'm fabricating a push rod to make it work. I also took the drive shaft back to Hudlow to have it rebalanced.
Hope to have a renewed brake pedal feel and no more vibration by tonight!

I see people buying new Tie Rods and what not, is there a way you can just sandblast them and repaint them ?

If you use soda or walnut shell you should be able to without damaging the grease boots, but if your boots are rotted to the point where they wont hold grease, you may want to go with new ones.
Poly Performance makes boot hats, but I haven't tried them, so I'm not sure if they are a fix, or an add on. You can check their website, or talk to one of the gearheads at your local Oreillys.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

pulled the homemade flat bed off (i did not build it) with my tractor after cutting the sloppy stick welds and scrap used to hold it to the frame let me tell you that was fun fun fun. next up remove engine/trans rear end pressure wash frame and por-15 it. never ending keep telling yourself it'll be on the road before you know it.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Finally had a couple of days off in a row. Got some work done on my golf cart project and had a few minutes to spend on the truck.

Gave me another 11 1/2 inches of room.

Now I need a good sheet metal place. I am north of Kingwood if anyone knows one without going into Houston.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Put the 3rd coat of flat black onto the driver's side floorboard, cleaned out the bed. Tomorrow I'll haul off a lot of trash from back there.

Cleaning out the bed did a couple of things: it gave me more storage space for new truck parts, I found aftermarket parts I didn't realize I had, and I was able to get ahold of more cardboard.

Just a thought, loosen up the other side and try to bump the body over a bit, i think thru the years the cab shifted to one side as the mounts rotted. When i did my cab mounts i left every thing loose with the nuts backed off, all 6 of them, until i got the whole set in place

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Removed and cleaned my dimmer switch, now the high beams don't stick on. Turned on the lights to test it, noticed the dash lights worked, decided to test the make shift horn button the PO installed, and now the dash lights don't work...

Now I get to check wires.

Considering it sat in a pasture for years, I'm just happy any of the lights work.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Well I've been driving without taillights when the headlights were on. Couldn't figure out what was wrong. A few searches on this forum.... Undid the taillight housing, turned the headlights on and still no headlights... Then, by pure coincidence, the housing touches the bumper and the fricking bulb turns on!!! Found the faulty ground!!!! Thanks to all who share knowledge, advice and experience .
Man wins!
