1971 gmc 5500

This is my first post - May take a bit to get it right
Just finished a rebuild on my old 5500. Upgraded from 350 4 speed to a 366 5 speed, new hoist under the deck, new brakes and paint

Re: 1971 gmc 5500

Thx guys. I've had the truck for many years and it came due for another clean up. The project started as just the installation of the hoist to enable the dump function for the previously solid deck. Of course the project evolved to include the replacement of engine, transmission, front and rear axles and paint

Looks real nice!

Did the truck originally have Spokes like it does now?

Also tell us a little more about your John Deere Tractors there. I'm especially taking notice of the second one over.

Re: 1971 gmc 5500

The truck was originally a 5500 with the smaller bud style wheels - the donor truck that I took the engine, transmission and hoist from also donated the front and rear axles with the 10.00 x 20 Dayton wheels - I am still looking for the wider front fenders to finish it up.
The tractor is a 1948 John Deere D - quite common in this part of Canada - this tractor was owned by my grandfather - I restored it and a 1946 Maple Leaf Chev for my daughters wedding props a couple years ago Any excuse for a project

Nice looking "D".

I'm a JD fan myself. I have a '59 435.

Nice '46 Chevy truck as well.

Much smaller fenders than the 7500's. I have a pair of 7500's (well ok technicly they are Chevy 70's) but this is not them.......did they make both a "C" series 5500 and a H/J series 5500?

Re: 1971 gmc 5500

I would have to check my books to be sure, but I believe those 5500's are "E's".
