Wheel Geometry is Off

We have an 86 Silverado lowered on McGaughys spindles and removed 1 coil off the original spring. All steering and suspension was replaced with new parts. After the drop we noticed that the driver side wheel and tire sit further out towards the fender than the passenger side which sits in closer to the frame. I have a buddy with an 84 with brand new CPP A-Arms and spindles doing the same thing. Spoke to another enthusiast having the same issue. Any ideas on what is going on???????

Re: Wheel Geometry is Off

Has the truck been aligned yet? It’s possible that one side has different camber than the other, which will move the top of the tire in or out.

I would also measure tire to frame (after alignment) and frame to body on both sides to check if the body is shifted on the frame.

Re: Wheel Geometry is Off

Alignment has been done already and still there is a noticeable difference in where the wheel sits in the fender. I would say there's about a 3/4-1" difference. I've got an 85 that we just bought and will be lowering soon. I checked for any issues before lowering this one and it all checks out even on both sides. So if there's any issues afterwards I'll know it's the parts and not the truck.

Re: Wheel Geometry is Off

I’m gonna buy Western Chasis drop spindles this week for my 85 GMC, we’ll see what that does.

Re: Wheel Geometry is Off

Wow seems like after checking the forums this question goes way back in other threads, mine was 4 wheel laser aligned, so feel good about alignment, now it makes me wonder is my body is not off a little, I have new aftermarket body and front core support bushings, might need to loosen and shake it up a little see if it changes anything,

Re: Wheel Geometry is Off

There are 5/8" alignment dowel holes in the front cab mounts. Stick a couple long 5/8" bolts in them to see if the body/ frame alignment is good.
