Header Questions

Currently I have a pair of Hooker full length headers, that the powder coating is wearing off of and I think they are part of the reason my cab is getting so hot even though I have pretty good heat deadener under my carpet. I'm looking for a set of full length headers for a 62 2wd with a 350 with side mount motor mounts. Does anybody have any recommendations? It doesn't matter if they interfere with the torsion bars because I have a 77 front end.
Also I heard that if you put heat rap around headers it will cause them to rust. Is this true if they are ceramic coated headers?

Re: Header Questions

I put full length headers for a 76 2wd on my buddies 63 2wd and they fit great. I'm not sure, but I dont think ceramic coat would rust, and I believe one of the selling points of the ceramic coating is that it has its own insulating properties which would help your problem. This link has some good info for you.

Re: Header Questions

If your exhaust is getting overly hot, that could be a tuning issue with your engine. For long tube headers, you can use most any header that is designed for the '63-'87 trucks. If you are running an auto trans, there are lots of options. If you are running a manual trans, you will be more limited. The hedman 69090 are one set that will work. They are available in the Elite series also. I would not use a header wrap on a set of headers that you want to keep for a while. The header wrap works well, but it drastically shortens the life of your headers.
