Barn door handle

Hi All,

Does anyone know where I might find a replacement handle for the barn door of a 66 Suburban? The old one I have is different than the side door handles... The pin is shorter, and the part of the handle that fits into the hole in the door sheetmetal is also shorter than the side door handles. I haven't been able to find a repop. I'd even settle for another year/style of handle that would work. Just wondering what others have experienced with this. I guess I could have the old one re-chromed and rebuilt, but it's a mess so I'm not sure how well that would work out. Thanks for any and all input!

Thanks man, but the chrome on that one actually looks worse than the one I have! I'll do more homework and see what my options are, but I may get back to you. Thanks!

I'm pretty sure the chrome handles are the same as the side doors. The lock mechanism is definitely different. I picked up a standard lock mechanism, for the side door, and just trimmed the push rod so it was the same as the original on the barn door. Works like a charm.

It sure would make sense that Chevy would use a common handle, but the one that came off my barn door was definitely, but only slightly, different. The cylindrical piece that fits into the door (where the lock pushbutton goes thru) is about 3/8 inch shorter than the side door handles. But we'll give it a try with a side handle, we have a few extra good ones that we could try with a shortened pushrod. Thanks for your input, I definitely appreciate it!

Hi Ron, thank you. Can you tell me if it is the same as the side door handles? If it is, I'm good, I have an extra side handle that I can use. If yours is different and in good shape, I may be interested in it. Thanks again!

Re: Barn door handle

They are the same outside of the length of the shaft that actuates the door. You just need to trim a little off and they work like a charm.

Thanks for confirming that for me. I'll just trim the pushrod and test it out. Thanks again!
