widest rear tire for 47-55 chevy PU?
I`m thinking about trying to get this old pu from a friend and I was wondering what the biggest tire I could fit in the rear was? I don`t want to cut the frame but I don`t mind tubbing the bed. It would end up with a ladder bar or 4 link set up so I guess I really just need to know how much room is from the frame to the outer wheel well? The truck is in a different town so I can`t just go over and measure it. Thanks.

235/75R15 works for me
My truck (54 3100) had 255/70R15's on 15x8 rims with 3" backspacing when I bought it. Static, the tires fit great (about a half inch clearence on either side), but as soon as you took a turn they'd rub. I've swapped those out for a pair of 235 tires with 15x7 rims, 3-1/2" backspacing and 3/4" spacers. That combination works great, but the tires aren't very wide!

I am running BFG 255/70 15 on the rear with no fender or bed mods
