51 Gmc Wiring, Raditor - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

[SIZE=7]I have a 51 gmc project truck the body work is done it is apart so i would like to start wiring it. It is on a camero sub frame and has a 77 corvett 350 in it. so it would be a 12 volt system it also has a firebird collum in it. I was wondering if anyone knows a good wire kit like painless but cheaper i am only 16 and on a very tite budget. I need something not to hard to use. Thanks.

Also does any one know if the stock raditor will cool the 350 with a tranny cooler, its a 1/2 ton thanks again for all the help.

I read that ezwiring has a nice wiring harness. Check out their website ezwiring.com.

Here are a couple of kits that are like half price of a Painless kit.Around $160.

I have used several EZ-Wiring kits in restorations and street rods. I think for the money, they are as good as you will find. You can get them with black wire or colorcoded like GM. Both are labeled every 5 inches. Their book has decent instructions for wiring to GM columns and different charging systems. They also have new switches available at decent prices. I just finished putting one of their 18 circuit colored harnesses in a 67 pickup. JM2c.
I also have a friend who builds 47-53 chevys and he runs the stock radiator. If you use a front steer subframe, sometimes you have interference with the steering box. Hope this helps. Frank

Great information, Alan. I was reading through through the various links on your site (MADD) in particular. Geat information. On the other part, I was glad to see that there were some less expensive options to the Painless brand. I still have a LARGE amount of time (and money) away from being ready for the wiring but, I'm a research nut. The more I can read, the better I feel about money that I'm spending on the panel.

Get at that panel, bro'! REPLACE your daily driver with it (forget about show) and you'll save a ton of money every year on car payments ... then you'll be able to have fun driving it!
