Wink Re: Decal Replacement/77 Chevy Sport?

I picked up 76 sport last summer. No idea at the time that it was anything special. I'll be needing to get new decals when I get it painted. Hope to start working on it this spring.

Re: Decal Replacement/77 Chevy Sport?

Those original trucks are still out there ....what did you have to pay for it?

Can you post a picture of the SPID option sticker ?

I picked up an original 76 from Florida a few years ago ...$3500.00 plus shipping.

Re: Decal Replacement/77 Chevy Sport?

Unfortunately the SPID was removed. I paid $1900 for it. The lack of rust raises the price quite a bit here.

Re: Decal Replacement/77 Chevy Sport?

I guys are really making me think twice about my truck, I have a 79 sport, 80SPORT we have talked in the past. Mine was two tone grey and black with pumpkin orange stripes. it was so ugly that I did plan to repaint it stock. I am in the middle of a ground off restoration of the truck and planned to paint it blue, keep the SPORT hood badge, and have SPORT airbrushed on the tailgate. your thoughts

Re: Decal Replacement/77 Chevy Sport?

I originally liked the orange color but not the decals. But my intention now is to put the decals back if possible.

80Sport, I saw where you commented that you had someone digitize the decals for a few other years. Do you have those for the 76 decals that you would be willing to share?

Re: Decal Replacement/77 Chevy Sport?

Chris ....you should always do want suits your vision of what the truck should be;the only time I would suggest not doing a mod that you liked would be if you had a very correct original ...they can never be duplicated again.

Ermot ...that is a great buy on your 76 Sport for a rust free truck ....the orange package is the one shown in the period adverts,

I have not had the stripes programmed for the 76;if I pick up another one that needs a repaint /restripe I will have them made up and available to everyone;if you take your truck in to a computer graphics sign shop there should be enough left of your originals for them to make them;while the 76s have some curves and tapers they have the advantage of being plain white rather than multicolor or fade like the later ones.

Now is there ANYONE out there that has some NOS stripes for the 76?

Re: Decal Replacement/77 Chevy Sport?

I bought my 79 in 94. had a straight 6, other than that and the stereo pretty much bone stock, I have already lowered it, think I am going blue, but paint is a good year or two away yet. thanks for your thoughts

Perhaps I could put a blurb/feeler on 73-87.com...might help.

I would love to have these (scans/specs) available too to share on the site, if everyone is OK with that.

Re: Decal Replacement/77 Chevy Sport?

Wow! I should check this board more than twice a year. This is my thread. I hope we can find more information on the Sport decals. I'd really like to see more pictures of '77 Sports as that is what I want my truck to look like someday (for nostalgic reasons). I would especially like to see pictures of the 77 Sport's unique features like the seat detail, the dash grain pattern with its "chrome" bead (I haven't seen that detail on anything else, how is that attached?) , the stripes with measurements, the fleetside rollbar, and the "Chevy Sport" decal on the Fleetside bed. The pictures of my Sport are from 79 and not very clear.
I have one NOS stripe. It's the right hand door bottom stripe. It's part number is 462150. The back is labeled with a logo "STACAL Marking Film". It was made by Stauffer Chemical Company Plastics Division, Westport, Connecticut. I imagine that is just the material manufacturer and not the company that produced the actual decal. Either way Stauffer appears to be long gone.
Also, I have a 73-78 illustrated parts book but unfortunately it only contains stripe detail and placement illustrations for the 78 Sport since the book was updated in the 80's. Maybe an older book would have previous Sport stripe details.
Thanks for the pictures and the thread,
Bob

Re: Decal Replacement/77 Chevy Sport?

I don't think the seat or dash were any different than any other models. My dad's 76' Chevy Sport, which I still own and my 77' Chevy Sport I bought new were both Scottsdale level interiors. They were the same as any other Scottsdale at that time.

Re: Decal Replacement/77 Chevy Sport?

Other than the stripes and rollbar on my 77 it was like all the other trucks. Mine was a lower level scottsdale. no power windows/locks. But it had an aux lights switch where the dual tank switch usually goes. and it looked like a dual tank rocker switch, just it was an on-off switch for the lights on the rollbar.

If anyone gets the white stripes redone, let me know...I would like to get a copy of the pattern because sooner or later, I will have another '76!

Re: Decal Replacement/77 Chevy Sport?

Hey everyone on this particular thread, we actually found a 77 sport truck in great shape. As everyone has indicated the stripes are gone due to a re-paint a few years ago. Has anyone found a source of or a reproduction for stripes?

I think 77sport still has the original stripes on his truck.

Time for a road trip with a digital camera

Re: Decal Replacement/77 Chevy Sport?

I remember the exact stripes being on the truck we found, itwas in our hometown when new, but had been parked in a barn for a while. We just completed the interior and installing a new wood floor/ bed. Got new white wheels but the next plan is to get new black paint and hopefully the multi color stripe. Does anyone know of a graphic shop that would have the pattern or a shop in Kentucky that has the machines to make those stripes up? Hopefully in the near future we can post a few photos.

Were you able to come up with the original Chevy Sport white spoke wheels or did you put aftermarket on it?

Re: Decal Replacement/77 Chevy Sport?

We had to get aftermarket white wheels. They match the spare that was still under the bed except for the red and black pin stripe about the rim. Did clean up that fullsize spare and used it. The chrome wheels were on the truck so we plan on running those over the winter months and mounting the white wheels after the new paint next spring.

Does your truck have the service parts identification sticker in the glovebox? If it does could you post a pic of it. Trying to find pics of the 77 stripes have been a challenge.
