I have been working but it's all been little detail stuff or boring stuff but I will go ahead and bring this thread up to date. I'm at a point right now where I need to spend some substantial money to see real progress.

I'm ready for an engine management system, American Auto wire classic update kit to completely wire the truck, VHX gauges and Accuair air management. That's 5 grand right there but I have been working a ton of overtime so hopefully I will have everything in the next few weeks.

I recently finished up my trans cooler hard lines. My convertor should flash to 3600 so I also wanted to plumb in an auxilary cooler to control the heat.

Like I mentioned the other day, I ended up changing my rear notch brace so I could move my rear bags inboard. I got the lower mounts set up this weekend and got them welded in. Rear end is painted and back under the chassis.

And lastly, I finished up the Vintage Air install. Everything inside of the cab is installed and wired. I still need to make my lines from the firewall forward and wire the trinary switch but I plan to wait on that until I have the cab and inner fenders installed so I know how I want to route everything.

I really hope to have some substantial updates really soon. My goal of wanting to test fire the engine by Memorial Day is still possible but I may need a miracle to make it happen.

Everything looks good Mike. The American Autowire is a great kit and fairly easy to install. However, since you do not have a stock truck, I think it will be overkill. I used one on my green 68 and ended up eliminating a lot of the wires and extra circuits. Go to their website and check out some of their PDF files just to get an idea of how it lays out.

Re: 1970 Med Olive Project

Rob is right. I had the classic update kit in my 71 and it's great! Doing my LS swap, I've practically deleted half of the wiring.

A Painless harness is not a bad choice, but there may be cheaper options out there.

Re: 1970 Med Olive Project

Your preaching to the choir here man. I can't help myself, I have too many projects going too. I just finished a big block for my ladies 65 Impala and she's also getting some ridetech goodies and some Kore 3 brakes. And I wonder why I cant get anything done

So what are you working on?

Re: 1970 Med Olive Project

This afternoon after all of the Mother's day festivities were done I snuck out in the shop for a while. I have been neck deep in little detail stuff on the truck for the last few weeks and I am getting a little burned out. I decided today that I needed to do something to recharge my batteries a little. I put the cab on the chassis for the first time and I can't believe how excited I got. I'm glad I did too because I realized I still needed to trim the tunnel some from when I installed the high hump. Even after I trimmed it, it's still a little tight at the output yoke but I will get that worked out. Here is a few pictures from today.

I also had to trim the passenger side engine cover a little but other then that, Everything fit great!

I may have sat and stared at it a little too long because momma was making fun of me and said I was like a little kid with a new toy. Who cares what she says, I just got a new toy

I should have my engine management system and my wiring harness this week. Not my most favorite part of any project but I really want to fire the engine soon.

Re: 1970 Med Olive Project

First, truck looks great! I am wiring my 68 C10 with an LS swap right now as well. I have most of the interior and rear wiring done. I had bought a AAW Classic Update harness but decided after looking at the details that their Highway 22 kit was a better fit for what I needed. It uses a modular fuse panel so you can customize the wiring and routing. All my wiring is tucked and hidden. This also eliminates the bulkhead in the firewall and since I had smoothed the firewall this was also something I was looking for. It has extra circuits you for things like electric fans, fuel pump, EFI, etc. It has one 30 amp relay on board you can use for one fan or a fuel pump. Only downside is that is does not come with some of the vehicle specific items like rear light sockets, etc. It does come with the correct headlight switch, floor dimmer, etc. You can even use the "Bat 1" extra circuit for the Vintage Air power and it will accept a blade style circuit breaker. I used the "Heat/AC" circuit for iginition trigger of the VA and other relays but not power since it runs through the igintion switch. It may be worth taking a look for your truck.

Thank you very much for the information. I can't stress enough how much I dislike wiring. I like things neat and clean and wiring is the hardest thing to hide. Wish me luck
