Re: Pic Thread: Station Wagons

Wagons are just awesome. But they are getting harder to find. I was looking for a gm wagon with a big block for a while. Ended up settling on a 76 Plymouth gran fury as the price was right. Its a 440 with a police fleet code. Drove it over 4,000 miles since April. I will say cruising as a pack of full-size wagons in Rockford IL was a fun experience. Plus being 15 miles from the Belvidere assembly plant where they were made; had a number of people come up and talk that remember building them.

I took my driver's test in a '71 Gran Fury Coupe. It was sure grand size when it came to parallel parking, but I passed. Plymouth styling from the mid-70s is like they only had one style design they offered in your choice of size. You wagon looks like a big Volare wagon to me. Cool wagon.

Re: Pic Thread: Station Wagons

Special-K, The ones above are all C bodys, which was Chrysler largest car platform. Just like now they have a cross-over to fit any size. To put size into perspective my wagon has a 124" wheel base, my 72 K10 is 127". Parked next to each other the wagon is a few inches bigger due to the 70's impact absorbing bumpers.

Yuccales, it sure was fun cursing in a pack. Plus like trucks their useful and can be a hotrod too.

Yep, the Fury was Plymouth's full-size and it was! I'm saying they used pretty much the same front end styling on all sizes. My friend had a '72 big motor Gran Fury Wagon, black w/woodgrain and 440. We called it "The Limo".

Thanks . It was just a little dusty from being stored for 5 years. I did detail with a flex orbital and just fine polish and wax

Re: Pic Thread: Station Wagons

Here is the '91 "Family Wagon" we had for a while. Got 20mpg and could haul family, dog, house, and contents" I'd wash it to keep the wheels shiny black.

I owned a loaded '71 Custom Deluxe/10 Suburban, Medium Blue on Blue BBC, for quite a few years, but don't think I ever took pictures. It wasn't quite the cream puff Marks '77 is but was very clean. It belonged to a Vette collector who used it to pull his Vettes around. My kids were young and it was certainly the family wagon. My X drove a Samurai to nursing school and such, so we needed something bigger. I remember taking my two kids, two neighbor kids, and 3 or 4 dogs weekly to 4H dog obedience classes in it. Talk about hauling an active load!

I wish I had pictures of the '65 Biscayne Wagon I bought my older son when he got his license. It was a cream puff as well. Garage kept original owner with 53 thousand miles on it. It looked restored. He drove that thing for many reliable years

Now my main vehicle is the '95 K2500 Suburban. I really like these things. Mine is more "trucky" than most and I dig that. So handy it's not funny. I never wanted a cap on my pickups, but all inside with side entry doors makes for a great vehicle. It can be a crew cab shortbed, a regular cab longbed, or troop carrier.

They swapped the claw feet for wheels and tires and made a Rambler out of it. I always called these cars of this styling "Superman era" cars. Didn't Lois Lane drive a Rambler ragtop?

No dead bodies. Unless I give my ex a ride. She's not dead...But she's a dead lay. I'm not sure if that qualifies.

this is a handy little wagon for the urban environment.. more than adequately powered, narrow and nimble for parking..

the missus, nanny, and I all use it for kids shuttling.. don't care for all the dash gadgets but getting difficult to avoid these days..
