ok so this was pretty much one of my first mods to my truck other then a few part installs. so what do you think? did I do a good job at getting it done? I used a dremal tool with a cutting wheel. only took about 15 mins to actually cut it. the rest of the time was getting it to balance right. was a little back heavy to I placed some rubber washers between the ash tray and radio sleeve.

I'd find a way to support the back of the radio.. the head units get kinda hot..
and that rubber support will not like it..
radio shack and others,maybe lowes/home depot too.
it'a a 3/4" wide strap that has holes in it every 1/2"

that's what I was going to do, I thought I had some laying around but come to find out I don't so this is just a temp thing. the rubber piece is actually and old rubber PCV grommet from a valve cover that I no longer needed so it should be OK for a little bit heat wise. Or so I hope anyways

your stereo probably came with a lug that can go on the back.. it should look like a big thick pin.
if you get a rubber grommet that fits that pin, you can make a simple bracket with a hole in it.
mount the bracket under the dash, and when you slide the radio in, the pin will go in the hole and support the back of your stereo.

if you dont mount the back of it, it will eventually break either the radio mount sleeve, or twist the dash (or both).

no insult taken here trust me I HAVE thick skin, I have to to deal with the crap I do everyday. that's why I posted the smart a-- comment. no harm no foul.

My '78 had the bezel cut for a radio...If it still had the OG radio, I would have put the radio under the dash, or in the glovebox...it was already cut so I just put a nicer radio in it...I bought a kit from crutchfield...it came with a thin gage sheetmetal bracket for the back, that I supported from some nearby bracket, to prop the radio up. you can use any little piece of sheet metal, or even that plumber's strap stuff.

A support strap would be a good idea, but you dont need one. I'm running mine without one and its holdin up well.

i put a strap on mine as i find sometimes the radio must bounce as the cd skips as the truck bounces

Nice job. I would put a strap on the back. My 71 had a place already there for the factory speaker mount. I used it to support the back of the radio.

Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.
