Re: Pulley belt contact area

First thing I would do is put the PS pulley on all the way. Power steering has its own belt and adjustment. What year is this going in? Long water pump should have the alt on the other side with the AC where the alt is now. OR convert everything to a short water pump

Re: Pulley belt contact area

Pulley is not on because just mocking up,

I guess ill get a three groove crank and a two groove ps pulley, question...i see two types of crank pulley ,one is all three the same size, the other is the back two grooves are smaller, which is correct? The front would drive crank ,wp, to ac, The middle would be crank, wp, alt , the back would be ps pump.

Almost any system, brackets, suspension etc. work and fit better using the same companies parts throughout. I'm saying this because I'm not so sure that PS bracket is designed to work with the Alan Grove (type) brackets or vice versa. I could be mistaken.

The alan groves bracket is designed to work with the original ps mount,

Re: Pulley belt contact area

I guess I am with kwmech on the pully not being bottomed out thing. My way of thinking is everything where its suppose to be to check alignment. That pulley could be off as much as a 1/2 inch. But then again I am a kind of hands on no instruction kind of guy. If you can do it that way and get it right that's great just that I couldn't.

Re: Pulley belt contact area

Don't think the AC+PS pulley setup was ever designed to provide the primary power to the PS pump. On my AC equipped 350, the single AC belt barely touches the PS pulley, much like yours. The main PS belt goes around the water pump, main pulley, and PS pulley. The PS pulley is a double belt pulley. My AC is in the same place as you are putting your Alt.

Thanks, just need to figure out which crank 3 groove to get, that and a two groove ps pulley will fix issues

Ok, guys, the pulley was fully seated, i removed it and got a new ps pump, so its not pressed back on yet, i just set it there for pics, THAT IS NOT THE ISSUE OR THE QUESTION..

Re: Pulley belt contact area

Think of this. GM used on some applications (cadillac?) a two groove pulley for the crankshaft (WP,Alt, and crank) and a two groove pulley on the PS pump and ALT, and had a short belt to go from ALT to PS pump.

Here's a image of what i'm saying

You just use 2 grooves though.

I had a 68 Impala with 327 that had the AC on the passenger side, Alt on the drivers and PS. Don't remember if the Alt belt also touched the PS or was totally separate. If you can find engine bay pics of one, might be a place to start.

Re: Pulley belt contact area

Part of the issue here is that you are using a long water pump and trying to configure your accessories like a short water pump is set up. If you want the AC on the passenger side and the alternator on the drivers side, a short water pump and all factory short water pump pulleys and brackets will accomplish what you want.

Re: Pulley belt contact area

I always wondered why GM put the AC compressor on the drivers side. It never made sense to me.
