Steve Hafner,

What size/type of gasket did you use for the inside of your toolbox door?

I didn't do the restoration and I think the guy who did told me it was some he just found at the local hardware store. The truck is still in storage or I'd take a close-up picture of it.

Re: Show us your bedside TOOL BOX

So if you found a good door (very minimal rust maybe a dent) and liner on a truck in a junk yard what would it be worth? Guess i'm wondering if its worth my time to go get it even tho i don't want one on my truck..

A friend of mine in Canada found a box and door for mine,, minimal pitting on the door. It was sanded to bare metal so , no hidden surprises. I didn't need the box , and it had a hole in it,,I wanted the door. I got the door, shipped,, for $250. I am happy with that !!

I'm hoping to be able to repair my original......

Re: Show us your bedside TOOL BOX

Maybe I missed it here somewhere but could anyone tell me what year the bedside tool box became available? Was it 1970?

Re: Show us your bedside TOOL BOX

On the topic of bedside tool boxes, has anyone replaced the lock one of these before. My truck is currently being painted and the previous owner had removed the lock from it. I would like to replace it but was unsure of what works best.

. . . .

I've never seen a picture or read anything that said they were available before 1970.

The only pre-1970 toolbox I've seen is the 1968 Longhorn pictured, below.

It really looks like it's been on there since it was new.

It was said to have had gold paint in the bed under what we see here.

If it had a "newer" bed put on it - it was done a LONG time ago !!!

Re: Show us your bedside TOOL BOX

I wish stepsides had something similar, from the factory.

I am such a tool head, I carry so many tools in my car trunk, that I really need a utility bed!

I am thinking about mounting a tool box to the passenger side step and a fire extinguisher to the driver's side. I definitely need to move my fuel tank to free up that space for tools and rifles.

Nice truck. I couldn't help but notice and have to ask, how is it that when the door is closed the brake drum/hub/etc turns black, but when open it turns brown?

Re: Show us your bedside TOOL BOX

Here's my setup. Rust free door, near perfect liner and hinges(not pictured) and rusted out lower bedside panel. Gonna use a rocker panel to fix it when the time comes.

Supposed to be a paying member to post "wanted" comments. I started paying the forum because I own my own website and it isn't cheap and mine is pretty simple. Plus, I get tons of advice here.
