Dana 44 yoke question

Having the driveshafts modified to fit the new placement of the T/C. Noticed a broken tab on the rear yoke, so I figure I’d remove front and rear and replace. I think the front is ok though, tabs look really good but I figured I’d ask here. Pics below.

Bigger question though may be that when I removed the yoke from the front diff oil began to seep out. Does the yoke hold the seal together? It certainly appears that part of the seal stayed with the yoke.

Might you have a link to a thread about changing that seal or can you give cliff notes?

I’m assuming that involves disassembly of the diff to get to that seal from the inside?

If you can give some specifics about your truck that would help- what transfer case, etc. The differential pinion seal is easily replaced- no need to tear apart the differential. Just use a seal puller or similar and pull the seal out of the housing and then tap the new one in. I've always used a center punch to mark the pinion and nut position before removing it, its a Dana 44 you won't have to worry about a crush sleeve since they use shims to set the pinion depth.
Pull out the seal, tap in the new one, put the new yoke on and tighten up the pinion nut.

has torque specs in the back for the pinion yoke nut and transfer case yokes too.
Front pinion is 255 ft lbs.

Yoke looks fine. Take some sandpaper and polish the seal surface. If you do not have any lines left you're golden. Put some liquid teflon on the splines. Before new seal installation, put some light grease on the backside of the seal to hold the spring in place so it doesn't pop off when you shove the yoke onor pound the seal in. To drive the seal in tight use a 603010-12-or-14 race to drive it in square and tight. Slide the yoke in and tighten it down tight ---if you are using the nut over use a few drops of locktight on it

great info, just what I needed. thank you all, and yes it is a dana 44 on front with the shown yoke but the leaky seal.

definitely getting a new yoke (not shown) for the back diff, as one of the tabs was nearly gone.

Now If I can get the driveshafts back before the whole city gets shut down I'll be happy. Had to get a new front driveshaft as there was noticeable wobble between the two parts. Rear is just getting shortened and updated.

If you have grooves from the seal on the yoke you can also drive the seal a little further in the housing so you can get the lips in a different spot on the yoke. I’m sure you can also get a speedi sleeve for it as well. They can be spendy though.
