Best cheap beer?
I'm not really a beer drinker, but I aspire to be one :-)
It recently occurred to me that there sure are a lot of cheap beers out there, and at least a few of them must be pretty good. So, I decided to start sampling them. I plan on keeping a cooler full of beer and ice in my shop all summer, and taste test a multitude of cheap ass beers. This is all in an effort to find the best cheap beer out there. I'm leaning toward cans, as that seems to exemplify a "cheap" beer So far, I've sampled: Miller light Rainer Henry Weinhart's private reserve On the list: Hamm's Old Milwaukee PBR etc. etc. So, What's your ->go to<- cheap beer? why? ...I'm drunk |

Re: Best cheap beer?
I remember about 30 years ago when I lived out in California, some company was selling generic beer.
It was simply called "Beer" & "Light Beer" in plain black & white cans. I remember it being cheap at about $1.75 a six pack. Tasted horrible....

Re: Best cheap beer?
Cheapest I've seen after the "plain wrap" beer is Schaeffer's. I don't drink that stuff anymore; drank a few when I was at my FiL's house >.< , but learned to bring my own.

Re: Best cheap beer?
My favorite cheap beer is Natural Light, although I think it’s gone up in price in the last few years.

Re: Best cheap beer?
My Mom didn't like the taste of Beer and bought " What Ever" was on Sale! I usually asked what it was when she would say - do you want a cold Beer! Sometimes I would just drink Ice Water because I knew it would taste better.

Re: Best cheap beer?
I like a cold beer, especially in the summertime. After mowing the yard or while I'm out fishing......I like a cheap beer. I fully understand what you're whole thread is about. My go to cheap beers are Pabst Blue Ribbon, Schlitz, Old Milwaukee, Carta Blanca, or Bud Ice. Not exactly cheap, but I also like Bud Light lime, orange, and the tomato juice Chelada beers. All are good right out of the ice chest on a hot day.
Now, for the afternoon sitting around the grill or at a restaurant with dinner, I like Dos XX green, Michelob Amber Bock, Corona, or Rolling Rock and there are two local Little Rock breweries, Diamond Bear and Lost Forty, that have really good varieties of different beers. My father-in-law kept a refrigerator in his shop behind his house and he always kept it full of Milwaukee's Best. Not my cheap beer of choice, but I have had a few sitting around visiting with him before he passed in 2003. Haven't had one since. I would like to go drink one with him today. I miss him. I also like yellow can Coors from time to time. I never buy Miller High Life, Busch, Natural Light, or Pearl......just don't ever make that choice. I also don't buy red & white Budweiser either. No reason, just not one that I buy. If you ever see a Canadian beer called Kokanee, you might like it. We drank some of that on a week long fishing trip to Ontario on Lake Kishkutena a few years back and I remember that it was pretty good. There's nothing wrong with enjoying a cold beer or two or three, and although I used to do it when I was younger, I would never drink and drive or drink a 12 pack at one sitting anymore. Just not my thing anymore. Wish you were closer, I would bring you some Lost Forty and we would drink a couple of cold ones and visit. . GTT

Give the new Costco stuff a try, I think it's called "Kirkland Signature Light" or something...not too bad, and cheap.

Re: Best cheap beer?
I thought of another cheap beer. Steel Reserve. $2 for a 22 oz can and it is over 8% alcohol. Not great for taste, but I like one every once in awhile to prime the pump. I generally drink Sam Adams Boston Lager, with the occasional Arrogant Bastard Ale.

Re: Best cheap beer?
Beware cheap beer! I was drinking some Old Milwaukee One day when I was about 19. I thought something was wrong with me. I could drink a beer and right away I had to pee.. I recently was drinking some cheap beer and had the same issue. 30 years later. Legit I was at the toilet with a beer in my hand and it was like pouring it in the lou. My favorite cheap beer was Crazy Horse. Nothing could beat a Crazy and a spli--!

Re: Best cheap beer?
I normally only drink a couple unless I'm hanging with friends all day at a swap meet or whatever. So, I enjoy quality beers. Cost doesn't matter so much when you don't drink in quantity. When I want cheap beer I drink someone else's! So my cheap beer is cheaper!

I didn't ask what his company sells it to the stores for ,,but at the stores it is aroungf $12
