My truck got broken into lasnight...

I’m pretty upset, but that’s what I get for leaving my truck out in the street.
I don’t live in a bad neighborhood. But it is Los Angeles county I live in.

I’ve had a 64’ vw bug, a 66 bug, and my last 63 c10 that I’ve parked out in the past. This is a first.

Luckily nothing happened, but they left my drivers door partially closed and try breaking my drivers door glass with a spark plug. Now I have a chip in my OG door window -,-

I’ve been hearing a lot about homeless popping up in my town of whittier which we never really had any and I heard the neighbor hood watch group made a warning about someone going around stealing parts of cars, and break ins.

Anyways now I’m all paranoid, and I gotta get a new set of door handles w/ locks anyways, my question is,

Does anyone have any clever ideas on how I could lock the hood? 2 U brackets with a pad lock? Or some kind of chain and pad lock?
I don’t want my truck look all janky with a big ol pad lock in the front but I don’t want anyone jacking my battery next....

Ugh! Sorry to hear this...I live a couple of towns over from you. It doesn't matter where you live these days with AB109, prop 47 and 57, the amount of break-ins and property theft in my neck of the woods has skyrocketed. I would also recommend a cable and lock since our trucks are relatively easy to break in to. I would also install a battery disconnect at the positive terminal to further discourage someone driving off with your truck.

Re: My truck got broken into lasnight...

Okay guys I just got new door handles with key locks on both sides. I know if someone really wanted to get in, they would but that’s a good start. I also just put a steering wheel club with also a brake pedal club that hooks on to the steering wheel as well.

I also took out the battery and coil/distributor wire out. Now I’m gonna get a lock and maybe make a bracket this week for the hood.

I might even drill a hole on the gear and hand brake lever and put a pad lock there too.

A bright blinking led light would be a great deterrent too. If a thief "thinks" you have an alarm, they are more likely to mover on to another car.

This is true, but at the rate cars in California get stolen a real alarm, and I mean a good one, would be better. And don't forget to talk with your insurance agent BEFORE something happens to find out just how much coverage you really have. So many people just go around assuming they are covered for this and that until the moment of truth hits them like a ton of bricks.

You’re right, I’m actually thinking about looking into Hagerty or another insurance company for classic cara and see what I could get

Thank you!

Having worked auto theft for a while, I can tell you if somebody wants your car, they will take it. Please, please don't leave ANYTHING in your car/truck. I've had cases where local surfers have left their wallets in their cars and the crooks went to town. No place is safe for vehicle burglaries.

HH was my hometown in the '60's & 70's. Been all over the area. Came back temp to admin my Mom's estate in '09. I'd suggest a game cam in a good spot. Times sure have changed.
