Heater System Upgrades....

For years my system has seemed a little weak and barely able to keep frost off wundows etc. The heater core finally started leaking and is going to need replaced.

While I am in there I want to do all I can to make the blazer warmer for my winter hunting etc. So is there a good existing thread? Or atleast a list of thing to fix and repair?

It is a 1972 Blazer without A/C.

Thanks

Re: Heater System Upgrades....

Chances are that heater core had some buildup in it too. A new heater core with good coolant flow should give a little more heat. You might also consider going to a hotter thermostat. In the winter, this will allow the water temps to get higher before the thermostat begins to open. The result is hotter water in the heater core and more heat. Other than that, I would suggest some insulation of some sort on the floors, in the doors, and on the inside of the bed sides to keep the heat in and cold out.

Here's a link to the pic's I took while rebuilding my a/c system. I tore apart everything and rebuilt it all including the air box.
Take a look. Maybe the pics will help.

I took my heater out and replaced it with a vintage air. It worked well when I pulled it out a few years ago, if you pay for shipping its yours

In my 72 Blazer, I put a blower motor out of a truck that had air conditioning. Now it blows my brains out !

Are they the same size and fitment or did you have to customize the fan? Any noticeable differences between standard blazer fan Vs. A/C fan?

YEP, they are exactly the same, all you have to do is swap them out, but I think that I had to take the fender well out to get to it.

Re: Heater System Upgrades....

Nice...its it your opinion that the A/C motor blows harder because its an A/C motor fan or is it just that the fan motor you put in was a bit newer and in better shape?

A fan that blows more air won't solve an air temperature problem. It will just blow more cool air.

Most blazer I have been in with a new core in them will run you out of the front seats problem always has been pushing the air to the back
