A friend of a friend is selling this bed and I was wondering if the old beds were any different from the newer ones. I've seen these on 80's trucks and they looked the same to me. I won't have a chance to go look at it until sunday, but I want to have an idea of what to look for. The guy selling it bought a house and it was in the yard. Supposedly there's no rust and all of the metal is straight. What would you offer?

oh yeah...there's wood in the bed too.

depends on if you need it of if you are just buying to resell or buying to put up for a later project. It looks really good [except for the bright color and stripe combo]. I just told my sister the other day about looking to buy a new truck it is'nt a deal if you don't need it or can't afford it . I personally could always use a good short bed step or fleet. offer a couple of hundred. Depending on how nice it is I would pay 500 maybe more.

If it's in as good of shape as it looks in the pictures I could use it. It would save me a lot of money in body work. I guess the main thing I'm wondering is if there was a change in the way parts were made from 69' to the 80's beds like the gauge of the metal used, etc.

the box is basically the same the fenders and steps are different for 73+ and 66- thats a 68-72 bed

cool...I have a 69 step, but wasn't sure. I'm going to talk to him this weekend about it.

Yes, 73+ has more squared off fender wells and there are a couple different style lines on the fenders. Some people use the 73+ beds on 67-72 trucks but the fenders will be mis-matched.

Looks like a good bed to me. I would look at the mounting points where the step fenders bolt to the bed sides. I have some pretty much rust free step fenders for mine and I paid $275 for one, and the other came with my truck (better than the one I bought actually) .. that's just the fenders.

If you blasted the bed, it comes out clean and in E-Coat I'd say you're looking at $800+ bed for someone looking for a SWB Step

A good clean one like that recently sold here after it was offered sitting beside the road with a "$ 600" For Sale sign on it for a year or more. No tailgate. Not sure what it finally brought.

very delayed response, but yes. I did buy it. Going to pull some parts off of my old bed and use it on that one.
