And back on the ground again. Dad had some random old radials laying in the basement which were good to get the chassis back on the ground and size up how it will lay.

Nice build reminds me alot of mine except I'm using thor bros 4 link (gotta love how nice Jason's kit lines up definitely worth the wait) and i fabbed my own cab mounts, the code504 kit looks super nice takes alot of guess work and fab hours out of it. Honestly makes me think about just going that route instead of buying a new welder.
But front control arms I'm not sure how it is with the 6.0l but I heard stock uppers hit exhaust manifolds with a small block. Speedway has tubulars for $50 bucks an arm just get 2 left sides because they are for circle track cars.

But i have to ask any info on the vw in the back ground??

Its too bad the truck oil pan doesn't fit as is. I did a Holley pan on my Blazer 6.0L swap and didn't want to shell out that kind of money again. Hopefully an H3 pan or something else cheap will work.

The code504 kit is great and I bought it for that exact reason, just being able to take the guesswork out of things. I'm expecting them to probably hit but that was my exact plan if they did!

The mk1 is actually g60 supercharged swapped, cool little car and fun. Was a friend of mines who I no longer share a shop with.

Ill take a measurement but I believe its around 3". The F-Body pan will solve my issue according to that site.

Been working on other projects lately but took some time today it modify the trans crossmember to clear the pan of the 4L80e

They may give you the option now, but the ones included with my kit when I bought it were for a SBC.

Started working on repairing the running board mounts. My idea behind this was to keep it simple, functional, structurally sound and not affect the patina on the front side of the board.

What I started with:


In process



Test fit



Now to just coat the underside and should be good. Moving on to the other side, then rear suspension.

Seems like some of them have disappeared. I really hate photobucket for reasons like this. The others seem to be working fine though, ill have to see what I can do about the missing ones.

I'll tag along. I purchased a 504 kit late last year but....it's still in boxes. Been trying to wrap up my pole barn/shop to begin working on a couple projects.

How well did everything bolt up? Any modifications needed?

Everything bolted up great. Upon first test fit the cab everything was pretty much spot on.

Some progress:

Notch in. Calculated for the larger tire I want to run as these are just rollers.



Motor/trans sealed up/painted and back in. Frame lays perfect with some weight over the 2600's. Once the bed is on all should be well.


Bridge/bag mounts tacked in



Still learning a lot about welding, anyone have any criticism here? Always looking for tips on how to get better.

Thanks guys. Some more updates:

Cab back on to see how the drivetrain fits. Had to cut just a small amount out of cab to fit the 4l80e. Minimal minimal tunnel work which is nice.



Had to throw a fender on of course!



Bed back on. Stoked on my measurements for the notch and bridge as the bed depth came out exactly how I wanted it. The truck will lay hard even with a bigger tire and still have plenty of room for a usable bed.





Next is to brace the bed up and replace the rusty rear crossmember. I plan to roll the truck out today as a whole and break out the DSLR. First time it will see sun as a roller in 3 years haha.

Really digging this build. I look forward to hearing how your Thorbros rear link comes out. From the pics they look stout and really well made. On their website they talk about the new crossmember raising the gas tank, is that true?

The link installed really easily and seems to work great from cycling the frame up and down. As far as raising the gas tank, yes it does. Im going to run a cell in this truck but I know the S10 guys love the crossmember for that reason.

Thanks man. I would definitely recommend it and their customer service is great. Im going to be utilizing a few more things from them as well.

Had some time today and decided to go through the rear end. The carrier and everything seemed to be in really great shape. No excessive wear or anything noticeable. Went ahead and replaced the wheel seals and bearings along with the pinion seal which was noticeably leaking. Sealed it back up with a fresh gasket for the rear cover, fresh fluid and assembled. Left the backing plates off in preparation for the little shop mfg rear disc brake kit I'll be ordering here shortly.



Love how its starting to come together




The next thing I want to tackle is the steering. Can anyone with the S10 swap chime in on their steering setup? I think I'm going to order Silverstarcustoms' no notch tie rods and it should do the trick. Open to suggestions though.

I fell in love with the patina as soon as I saw it. Thanks man!

Rolled it outside for some good pictures finally. Cab needs to come back about 1" but feels good to see it outside for the first time in 2.5 years.








Spent the rest of the day removing everything from the interior of the cab. Sound deadening on the firewall was hours of fun with a putty knife haha.
