I hope you pulled the rear axles and replaced the seals. It appears as though both were leaking quite a bit.

So for anybody wondering what I have done to the truck as of now here's the list. Front end.
Ball joints
U joints
Spindle bearings and seals
All four tie rods moog
New rotors pads calipers and hoses
Hub bearings and races and wheel seals
New steering stabilizer
And the steering disk at the box
rear end
Drums shoes wheel cylinders rear hose
And all the hardware.and that's just a part of it the 700 needs a rebuild and the case is leaking.

That's a good start. Take care of all of the safety/drive-ability stuff then you can start on the fun stuff.

So Here's an update on my jimmy had a major set back today.the new ball joints where pressed in at a local shop and got some bad news. The passager side knuckle top ball joint had mushroomed by someone before me trying to remove it and when pressed out it wiped out the top bail joint hole.so now the bail joint can be fully seated and you can turn the knuckle upside down it will fail out.so now I'm stuck trying to find a new front axle.

Re: 1987 gmc jimmy dally driver build

So after a week of looking found a good set of knuckles.so that's one good thing.so today but instead of working on the front end I decided work on ac in the truck. it was 72 today.i had fixed the ac in October it worked good but all the air was going to the floor I now no why my plastic tab was broken so I made my own today.

Re: 1987 gmc jimmy dally driver build

Then I did a little engine work with fresh oil and filter.new spark plugs new antifreeze tstat and temp sender.but the best thing I did was a new carb a used qjet that I built myself.the truck was a tbi motor that for some reason the po did a carb conversation using a crappy Holley 650 that leaked more gas than it burned.i fixed it but then it never ran as good as it does now.so got tired of the Holley so I rebuilt a qjet.Got it tuned and it runs so much better than Holley ever did.

Re: 1987 gmc jimmy dally driver build

So after a few weeks of rebuilding the front end I moved on to the rear.and not so good pulled the diff cover and found some pieces of the locking assembly.its a 10 bolt g80 gov lock I got lucky and there was no damage to the carrier so I converted it to open diff before it did it for me.

Don't have much to do on the jimmy right now so messed around with the wheels and cleaned them up as best as I can.

Re: 1987 gmc jimmy dally driver build

So after a week of driving the jimmy around got tired of the steering wheel not locking in place so this weekend I tore down the column and found this.

Those 4 bolts holding the tilt bracket should be unscrewed individually and put some thread locker and tighten them back up. Since your already there. But your probably way down the road by now.
